Rising From Betrayal Reborn As The Family Outcast novel Chapter 136

Chapter 136

After hearing Nicole’s words, Mavis’s panicked heart finally settled.

Yeah, I can just go and admit my mistake myself, she thought.

She pulled out her phone and tried to call Leo, but his phone was off.

That was all the confirmation Mavis needed-Leo definitely knew what was going on.

Her face went pale as she looked at Nicole. “Your dad’s phone is off. I have no idea if he’s furious.”

Nicole pressed her lips together. “He’s definitely furious.

“Just keep making the soup. We’ll explain everything to him when he gets home.”

Even if his phone was off, he’d have to come home eventually.

Mavis nodded. “I guess that’s all we can do.”

Then her eyes turned icy. “If your former father insists on making my life miserable, I’m not letting him off easy either.”

She hadn’t gone looking for trouble with her ex-husband these past two years, but that jerk actually went out of his way to mess with her.

She was itching to tear him to pieces.

Nicole nodded in agreement. “Yeah, we definitely need to show him what we’re made of.”

Mavis made a call, telling the person on the other end to go give her ex-husband a good beating.

She also told them to make sure her ex-husband shuts down his account and takes down every single video.

In a private room at a teahouse, Kevin arrived first and waited for his brothers. Soon, Austin and Caleb walked in one after the other.

Once they were both seated, Kevin pulled out two file folders and handed one to each of them.

“Earlier, Jason mentioned that someone in your circles might be connected to Nicole. Here’s what I found out, Kevin said.

Austin and Caleb picked up the folders and started looking through them.

After reading through the files, their expressions turned downright ugly.

Turns out, their assistants had been secretly meeting with Nicole all the time.

Those assistants had been constantly leaking their schedules and other important details.

Even the fights they’d had with Alicia were all stirred up by Nicole, who used the info from the assistants to pit them against

their sister.

Austin gritted his teeth. “We brothers have really been blind all these years.”

That clingy, innocent-looking stepsister they thought was harmless turned out to be a venomous flower.

Caleb was fuming. She managed to buy off everyone around us. Those two really know how to pull strings.

“I wanted to go to Ally’s last show, but my assistant told me I had a dinner with investors that day, so I missed it.

Turns out Nicole was the one who pushed him to set it up, just to make sure none of us could be there for Ally.”

He looked bitter. “That was the thing that made Ally cut us off for good.”

Every time Alicia’s name comes up, they can’t help but regret missing her show that day.

Even when she was in the hospital and refused to see them, they should’ve swallowed their pride and gone anyway.

Instead, they’d thought her injuries weren’t serious, and figured they’d just wait until she calmed down to talk.

Kevin’s face was grim. “My assistant’s been selling me out too, leaking a bunch of my personal stuff.

“And I found out all the online hate Ally got before was actually pushed by Nicole and her mom.

“Nicole’s agent was working with Haley, and they came up with the plan to make Ally the punching bag for that girl group.

“Oh, and that whole suicide thing with Nicole? It was all for show.”

Austin and Caleb were stunned. “All for show? So she wasn’t actually trying to kill herself?”

Kevin nodded. “Yeah, she manipulated Felix into pulling out Ally’s flowers. After Maxwell chewed her out, she went and slit her wrist, just to put on a performance.

“Right after she did it, her mom made sure the maid walked in and ‘found’ her.”

Kevin said, “All that pretending to be vulnerable and depressed was just an act-she did it just to get our sympathy and turn us against Ally.

Kevin added, “She used her tears and fake weakness as weapons, had us wrapped around her finger the whole time.”

They’d dug up almost everything now.

If only they’d started digging earlier, maybe things with Alicia wouldn’t have blown up like this.

Both Austin and Caleb were seething with anger after hearing all this.

Caleb was taking it the hardest right now.

He used to be the closest to Alicia, but Nicole kept hinting that Alicia was bullying her, so he started thinking Alicia was the one at fault, and ended up clashing with her a bunch of times.

He clenched his fists. “Nicole really pulled a fast one on us. Now that we know what’s really going on, we don’t have to play nice anymore.”

Austin agreed. “Yeah, it’s time those two got a taste of their own medicine.”

He turned to Kevin. “Does Dad know about what’s happening online?”

Kevin replied, “I heard the major shareholder went to talk to him, so he definitely knows by now.

“Not sure how he’s feeling about it now though.

“From what Mavis wrote in her diary, looks like she and Dad had something going on for a while.

“She said Dad cared about her and secretly helped her a lot.”

He took a deep breath. “Plus, since Nicole isn’t even Mavis’s ex-husband’s kid, Dad might’ve really betrayed Mom.”

Caleb was seething at his dad. “Who would’ve thought Dad was just a total phony?

“That’s why I say, let him spend the rest of his days with Mavis and Nicole.”

Kevin snorted, “Mavis and Nicole would probably be so happy they’d set off fireworks.”

Austin nodded, “Actually, Caleb’s right.

“If Dad really did Mom dirty, and kept drilling into us that we had to take care of Nicole, the poor little sister-

“…and that is how we ended up losing our real sister.”

“Let those three live their own lives together.

“But they’re not getting a dime from the Hammond Group or the family.”

Yeah, they were clueless about Nicole, but Dad’s got a lot to answer for too.

Always going on about how they should treat Mavis and Nicole like family, saying Nicole was so pathetic as a kid and they had to look out for her like she was their own sister.

Dad kept saying it over and over, so eventually they just started treating her like their own sister.

Caleb was taken aback. “There’s no way Dad would ever let go of the Hammond Group or the family fortune.

“You can tell how much Dad values the Hammond Group-he’s still holding onto all the power, hasn’t even let Kevin take charge yet.”

Austin chuckled. “Did you guys forget? Dad signed a prenup when he married Mom.”

Caleb hadn’t even thought about that before.

Caleb’s eyes lit up. “That’s right! The prenup is ironclad-if Dad cheats or has a kid outside the marriage, he’s out with absolutely nothing.

“And he broke both rules.”

As much as they resented their dad, they couldn’t deny they still had feelings for him.

If he kept siding with Mavis and Nicole, then let him go live with them, penniless.

That way, not a single penny from the Hammond family would ever go to Mavis and Nicole again.

When it’s time to take care of him in his old age, they would still cover his living expenses.

Caleb turned to Kevin and asked, “Do you have that prenup?”

Kevin shook his head. “No, I don’t have it.

“But before I came, I called the lawyer Mom trusted before she passed away. He’s got the agreement.

“If Dad really broke the terms, we can take him to court and make sure he leaves with nothing.

“That lawyer has our back.”

Austin thought for a moment. “But there’s something else we need to think about-what if Nicole isn’t actually Dad’s biological daughter?

“And what if we can’t find any proof that Dad cheated on Mom while they were married?”

Right now, all of this was just them guessing based on what Mavis’s ex said in his video.

If they couldn’t find any evidence, and Nicole wasn’t even Dad’s kid, then there’s no way Dad would have to leave everything behind and go live with Mavis and Nicole.

Honestly, that’s a pretty real possibility.

After all, before Mom passed away, they saw for themselves just how much Dad doted on her.

Back then, Dad was super careful around Mom, just like Mavis is with him now-he was always tiptoeing, afraid to mess up.

Mom had him completely wrapped around her finger.

With Mom’s personality, if Dad had ever cheated or had a secret daughter, there’s no way she wouldn’t have found out.

Caleb frowned. “It’s not impossible.”

Honestly, he just hoped Dad hadn’t done anything to hurt Mom, or had a kid on the side.

But he was really worried Dad might get fooled by those two and end up giving away shares and assets. That would seriously piss him off.

Kevin smiled. “That’s why Mom was so sharp. She left us another backup plan.”

Austin and Caleb both turned to him, curious. “What backup plan?”
