Chapter 145
When Leo woke up, he realized he was lying in a bed.
He glanced around at the unfamiliar room-seemed like he was in a hospital.
He tried to sit up, but he was too weak to move. He couldn’t even get himself upright.
After a while, the door swung open.
Mavis walked in.
She smiled and said, “Honey, you’re awake.”
Leo’s face turned grim. “Where is this place? What were you trying to do by knocking me out?”
Mavis replied, “This is a hospital funded by the miracle doctor.
“You suddenly passed out at home, so I brought you here to get checked out and treated.”
Leo said, “I want out of here. If I have to stay in a hospital, I want it to be the Delaney family’s hospital.”
Mavis laughed. “Do you really think that’s possible?”
She walked over and sat down. “Just stay put and be good. I’ll keep you company.”
Leo frowned. “Are you seriously keeping me locked up here against my will?”

Mavis wasn’t fazed at all. “I’m your wife, and you were sick. I brought you to the hospital-how is that holding you here illegally?
“Honestly, you must be delirious from the illness.”
Leo paused, then asked, “So what do I have to do for you to let me out of here?”
Mavis took out a set of transfer papers from her bag. “Just sign this, and you’re free to go.”
Not that she’d admit it, but even if he managed to leave the hospital, he’d still be stuck with her.
Leo tried to reach for the papers, but he couldn’t even lift his hand. “I don’t have any strength left-how am I supposed to even look at it?”
Mavis pulled out a bottle, opened it, and held it right up to his nose. “Just take a whiff-you’ll get your strength back.”
Left with no other option, Leo took a sniff.
After sniffing for a while, he actually felt a bit stronger than before.
He pushed himself up to a half-sitting position on the bed, but his legs were still like jelly.
He tried to get another sniff, but Mavis snatched the bottle away. She said, “Just read the agreement first.”
Leo picked up the agreement and skimmed through it. Now he finally understood why Mavis dared to keep him here against his will.
She was after the whole damn thing.
He asked, “So you want me to hand over all my shares and assets to you and Nicole?”
The agreement stated that all the shares and most of the assets would go to Nicole, while a portion of the fixed assets and all the money in the bank would be transferred to Mavis.
Mavis replied, “Exactly. After all these years serving your family, isn’t it only fair I get something in return?”
Leo raised an eyebrow. “And what if I say no?”
Mavis shrugged. “Suit yourself, but let’s see if you can really handle it.
Just as he expected, the lucky jade his late wife had given him was missing, but the watch was still there on his wrist.
Kevin got a WhatsApp message from his dad.
Jason messaged Alicia with an update: turns out, over the past year or so, several people had been secretly stocking up on nutria rats by the dozens.
None of them were Julian himself, but every single one had some kind of link to him.
They also found out Julian owned a property on the outskirts of town, where he kept all sorts of animals-including, you guessed it, nutria rats.
That sealed it for Alicia-her hunch was spot on.
There was no way she could let a dangerous guy like Julian wreak havoc. She had to find a way to shut him down before he even got started.
If another bridge went down because of him, or some building just randomly collapsed, who knew how many innocent people would end up hurt or dead for no reason?
A while back, Alicia had treated a patient who turned out to be a top official at the Security Bureau.
So she gave him a call and filled him in on her suspicions that Julian was secretly keeping nutria rats or other animals, and might be plotting to use them to cause another “accident” and kill people.
She also told him that Julian’s blood could cure just about any poison out there.
She even said they could extract some kind of miracle cells from his blood, and if used with the right meds, it might even be able to treat some major illnesses.
Whether it was the danger he posed to society or how valuable his blood was, Alicia was sure the authorities would take this seriously and start keeping tabs on Julian.
Alicia knew her own skills couldn’t hold a candle to what the Security Bureau could do if they really got involved.
No way was she going to charge in solo like some idiot-she’d seen enough villains get wrecked just for running their mouths or thinking they were invincible.
She trusted the Security Bureau and the cops way more than she trusted herself to handle this kind of mess.
