Rising From Betrayal Reborn As The Family Outcast novel Chapter 77

Chapter 77

Diana was pleased with her son’s decisive answer.

She turned to Nicole and said, “Did you hear that?”

“Whatever tricks you’ve played before, it’s time to stop.

“Our family doesn’t just let anyone in.

“Even if you manage to ruin things between my son and Alicia, won’t get you anywhere.

“My son will never marry you.”

Diana confronted Nicole in front of everyone just to let them all know-the Moore family would never let someone like her marry in.

She wanted Nicole to get real and stop dreaming that pining after her son would ever get her a spot in their family.

Women like Nicole? Diana had seen them all before.

Nicole’s background never impressed her, and her attitude was even worse.

Now, seeing Nicole’s eyes turn red and watery, looking like she was about to burst into tears, Diana just felt annoyed-what a downer.

Nicole couldn’t hold back anymore; tears started spilling down her cheeks.

She never expected Nicolas’s mom to be this harsh.

Even if Diana didn’t want her in the Moore family, did she really have to embarrass her with everyone watching?

She was the recognized daughter of the Hammond family, after all, but Diana didn’t even bother to show the Hammonds a shred of respect.

And Nicolas-he made it clear in front of everyone that Alicia was the only one for him, and there was no way he’d ever marry her.

Nicole’s mind spun: ‘Did he ever stop to think how humiliating this is for me?’

She was completely at a loss for words.

She just couldn’t muster the nerve to pretend she didn’t care about marrying into the Moore family.

Because, deep down, marrying into the Moore family was all shed ever wanted.

After all these years of secretly loving him, she really had fallen for Nicolas.

And there was this relentless drive—she just had to snatch him from Alicia’s grasp, no matter what.

The more he acted like this, the more she wanted him-she just couldn’t let it go.

But admitting defeat? She just couldn’t bring herself to do it. It would be way too humiliating.

So she could only lower her head and let the tears fall.

If Diana could read Nicole’s mind right now, she’d just scoff at her.

Chapter 77

The Hammond and Moore families go way back, and their business interests are so tangled up, you can’t even tell them apart sometimes.

If the Hammonds ever tried to make a fuss with the Moore family just because of Nicole, Hammond Group would’ve crashed and burned long ago.

And the Moore family wouldn’t have any reason to keep working with the Hammonds, either.

Even Nicole’s mom hadn’t expected Diana to be this ruthless.

What Diana did was basically publicly humiliating both her and Nicole.

Seeing her daughter with her head down, crying, Nicole’s mom felt her heart ache-but she couldn’t help thinking. ‘Useless. After all these years, and you still can’t get Nicolas to care about you.

Feeling the sting of embarrassment, Mavis looked at Diana and said, “Diana, can’t we discuss this privately?

“Today is my husband’s birthday. Isn’t this a bit much?”

If she didn’t stand up for herself now, she’d be even more of a pushover in the world of wealthy socialites-everyone think they could walk all over her.

Besides, she was Mrs. Hammond now-she had every right to speak up.

Diana scoffed, “And who are you to call me out? You really think you have the status to question me?”

“It’s your husband’s birthday, and you two managed to turn it into a circus-his own daughter cutting ties with him, all thanks to you and your little drama.”

“If anyone wrecked his birthday party, it’s you two.”

“I just want your daughter to get it-people who aren’t good enough don’t get through the Moore family’s door.”

That was Diana’s way of throwing shade at Mavis, making it clear she didn’t measure up.

Diana used to be close friends with Alicia’s mom-she was gorgeous, elegant, and had real talent and brains.

Mavis, though, was just passably pretty, her family was nothing special, and her whole life depended on latching onto a man. Diana couldn’t help but think, ‘Seriously, what was Leo thinking marrying someone so scheming and not even presentable?’

If Diana didn’t make a scene in front of everyone, she was afraid Nicole and her mom would still be scheming, hoping to marry Nicole into the Moore family.

That was something Diana would never allow.

Even if her son went off to become a monk, Diana would never let a troublemaker like Nicole worm her way into their family.

Mavis couldn’t believe that even after she stepped up, Diana still totally snubbed her.

She was so furious and humiliated she wanted to give Diana a good slap across the face, but she had to grit her teeth and hold it in.

The more Diana acted like this, the more Mavis was hell-bent on getting Nicole into the Moore family.

Once that happened, she’d make sure to crush Diana completely-let her know who’s really in charge.

Swallowing her anger, Mavis reminded Diana, “Diana, don’t forget, our families have plenty of ongoing partnerships.

Diana gave Nicole and her mother a long, pointed look. “Don’t flatter yourselves. You’re not as important as you think.” If Leo ever tried to make trouble for her over this, Diana would have no problem firing right back at him.

The Moore and Hammond families were partners, not dependents.

Besides, Diana wasn’t just Mrs. Moore-her own family was wealthy, and she ran her own businesses.

Why should she put up with some unpresentable woman from the Hammond family scheming to get her daughter into her son’s life?

She turned to Nicole and her mother. “You know why Alicia had he guts to cut ties with the Hammond family and stand her ground? Because even if she walks away, she’ll land on her feet.

“Her mom left her a fortune, and she’s got plenty of talent herself

“But if you two ever left the Hammond family, what would you have? You’d have nothing to fall back on.

“My son doesn’t need some parasite clinging to him.”

Diana knew what Nicole and her mom had been through, but she didn’t feel sorry for them like Nicolas or the rest of the Hammonds did.

Honestly, these two never learned to stand on their own two feet

‘If they were getting hit, why didn’t they just get a divorce and call the cops?’ Diana thought.

Come on, it’s the modern world-if Mavis really wanted out, she could’ve just divorced Leo and taken Nicole with her.

But Mavis never had the guts, or maybe surviving on her own never even crossed her mind.

Sure, their upstart family might have hit hard times, but it’s not like they ever had to worry about food or a place to sleep.

And with how crazy the internet is now, if Nicole just uploaded a clip of her dad smacking her around, tons of people would rush in to fight for her.

She could’ve used that to break away from that mess of a family, once and for all.

If they really wanted out of that hellhole, there were a million ways to do it.

But if they couldn’t even stand up for themselves, then blaming others for not feeling bad for them or stepping in to help? Seriously, that’s just pathetic.

Diana didn’t just look down on Nicole and her mother because of their status-she thought their whole attitude and way of living was beneath her.

Honestly, if someone like Nicole married into the Moore family what would Nicole actually bring to the table for her son? Shares in the Hammond Group? Connections in high society? Maybe a leg up for his career?

They’ve got nothing. So what kind of fantasy are they even chasing?

Once she’d said her piece, Diana didn’t bother wasting any more breath on Nicole and her mom.

Just then, Kevin and his brothers walked over.

Diana turned to them and said, “We’ve got things to handle, so we’ll head out. Mr. Moore can catch up with your dad over dinner some other time.”

Leo was definitely not in the mood to keep celebrating his birthday, so there was no reason for them to stick around.

Kevin and his brothers had already walked over, so they heard everything Diana said.

But since it was all about their sister, stepsister, and Nicolas, they figured it wasn’t their place to jump in.

Even though they thought Diana was being pretty harsh, as the younger generation, they couldn’t really call her out on it.

Kevin flashed a friendly smile, “Sorry for all the drama today, everyone.”

He gestured toward the door. “Let me walk you out, Diana.”

Diana gave Kevin a warm smile. “Sure, let’s talk as we go.”

She asked Nicolas to go get his father so they could all head out together.

Kevin walked the Moore family and the Conrad family to the parking lot.

Once the Moore and Conrad families left, everyone else took the hint and started heading out, too.

After all, the gossip was done and the show was over.

The Hammond family wasn’t in the mood to entertain, so nobody wanted to stick around and make things awkward.

Austin and Caleb were busy seeing the guests off, too.

It wasn’t just their dad who got embarrassed today-they were feeling pretty frustrated themselves.

They really couldn’t spare a thought for Nicole and her mom right now.

Mavis tagged along to see the guests out, pretending like Diana Hadn’t just insulted her in front of everyone.

Nicole couldn’t hold it together anymore and dashed back to her room, sobbing.

Yeah, she acted weak for sympathy a lot, but after being so used to being pampered, she really couldn’t handle any real setbacks.

She was hoping her three brothers would come to check on her cheer her up, and maybe even put in a good word for her with Nicolas.

Alicia and Jason were chatting and having dinner together.

Then her phone just kept buzzing nonstop.

It was all sorts of WhatsApp messages-her mom’s close friends, those uncles and aunts, plus a bunch of her own friends from the circle, all checking in and sending their support.

She replied to every single one.

Back when she was getting dragged and roasted online, some of them even DM’d her, asking if she needed any help.

She politely turned them down, thanking them for their kindnes

At the time, she was busy with her college graduation, so she just let the hate roll and didn’t bother fighting it.

Honestly, the more they trashed her, the better her glow-up would look in the end.

Then one of her socialite friends sent her a video.

After watching it, Alicia let out a small smirk.

Diana totally put Nicole and her mom on blast in front of everyone.

The pit she dug for Nicole worked like a charm.

But this was just the beginning.
