Rising From Betrayal Reborn As The Family Outcast novel Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Alicia was having dinner today with Ian Yates, a close family friend who had once pursued her mother and had always been kind to her.

lan was six years younger than her mom, but he was totally head over heels for her and chased after her with everything he had.

He’d almost convinced her mom to say yes.

But then, an accident left him unable to have children.

And her mom had always wanted kids.

So lan took himself out of the picture and moved overseas, which gave her dad the perfect chance to step in.

That’s why Ian was the one her dad hated most and was always wary of.

After Haley got divorced, her ex-husband kept harassing her.

So she went to Alicia’s mom for help, and Alicia’s mom helped her shake off her ex’s family’s harassment.

After that, Alicia’s mom got Haley a job at Starlight Entertainment. Once Haley had some money and connections, she took things into her own hands.

She paid someone to con her ex and his family into going abroad to work in a mine.

Haley’s ex-husband’s parents ended up working themselves to death, and her ex and their son were living in misery, with no way out.

Not long ago, Alicia asked Ian to help investigate their whereabouts.

She wanted to figure out a way to bring Haley’s ex-husband and son back to the country.

If she wanted to drag Haley back to her old miserable life, her ex-husband and son were the crucial piece.

‘Didn’t she think my mom’s help didn’t mean a thing to her?

If she’s going to bite the hand that fed her, then let her go back to that nightmare of being hounded by her ex and his kid.

Haley’s ex-husband and son already knew exactly what she’d done to them, and once they came back to the country, they’d have nothing left.

So of course, they’d definitely go after Haley for revenge and make her life hell.

Ian had just gotten back yesterday, and today he invited Alicia to meet up for dinner.

He looked at Alicia and said, “I’ve already told Haley’s ex-husband everything she’s done, and I’ve set up a little show that’s about to kick off in the next couple of days.”

Alicia smiled and thanked him, “Thank you, Uncle lan.”

He chuckled, “Even though things didn’t work out between me and your mom, I’ve always thought of you like my own niece. You don’t have to be so polite with me.

“And when my health was going downhill, you were the one who nursed me back to health. I still owe you a huge favor.”

His health was never great, and he could never move on from Alicia’s mom, so he stayed single all these years.

Even after heading overseas to build his career, he always kept tabs on the Hammond siblings.

But since Leo was so hostile toward him, he never got in touch with the Hammond siblings directly.

When he heard about Alicia getting dragged online and trashed by people, he finally couldn’t hold back and messaged Alicia

himself.

He asked if she wanted him to step in or do anything for her.

Alicia told him she already had it all figured out and would set the record straight and fight back herself, so he held back and didn’t step in.

Half a year ago, Alicia traveled overseas with her professor for a medical conference, and that’s when they met up.

When Alicia saw how frail he’d become, she offered to treat him herself:

He didn’t turn her down, but honestly, he didn’t expect much.

But to his surprise, she actually cured him and restored his health to what it should be for someone his age.

From that moment on, he valued Alicia even more and became even more protective of her.

This time, it wasn’t just because Alicia needed his help-he’d heard she’d severed ties with the Hammond family.

He came back specifically to stand by her and be her rock.

Leo couldn’t stand him, and honestly, Ian felt the same way-the feeling was mutual.

He really hadn’t expected Leo to turn his back on his own daughter, all because of his wife and stepdaughter. The guy played favorites without even trying to hide it.

The Hammond brothers turned out to be a real disappointment.

He had secretly helped all three of them before.

When Kevin landed that big overseas project, it was lan who got the right people involved behind the scenes.

When Austin was just starting out with his investment firm, Ian hooked him up with a few major clients.

And when Caleb was studying directing abroad, lan kept an eye on him and made sure he was taken care of.

He even had a friend’s company bankroll a movie for Caleb, and that film was what shot him to fame overnight.

But compared to the Hammond brothers, lan hadn’t really done much for Alicia.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to help-Alicia just never really needed anything from him.

That’s why he’d already made a will-when he passed away, the company and shares would go to his nieces and nephews in the family, but all his other assets would be left to Alicia.

Money isn’t everything, but having a hefty fortune behind her would give Alicia the backing she needed to face anything.

Who would’ve guessed Alicia would end up turning his health around like that?

So when she finally reached out for his help, he was all in-no way he’d say no.

Ian asked. “So, what’s your plan now?

“Are you planning to keep fighting it out in showbiz?”

Alicia replied, “I love acting, so I’m not ready to leave the industry just yet.”

‘No matter what, I have to claim that Best Actress crown I missed out on last time around, she thought to herself.

“But besides acting, I’m planning to start investing.

“And I’m partnering with Jason Farrell, the CEO of Lucent Media, to launch a green project together.

“Uncle lan, you mentioned before that you wanted to invest back home and were looking for the right project.

“If you’re interested, you could consider partnering with us on this green project.”

A couple of days ago, Jason brought up the green project and asked if she was interested in teaming up.

He also filled her in on what those other families were planning.

Alicia already knew about this project.

Back in her last life, the Hammond family, the Delaney family, and Nicolas kept coming to her, trying to rope her into their eco project.

They wanted her to train a bunch of people in acupuncture, herbal cooking, and making medicinal incense and remedies.

And they pushed her to hand over all her homemade herbal incense recipes so everyone could use them.

Even though she hadn’t officially cut ties with them yet, things were already super awkward.

They were basically at war with each other by that point.

So not only did she turn them down, she went ahead and partnered up with Jason instead.

In her previous life, Ian had done a ton for Alicia, and as soon as he found out about this project, he didn’t hesitate for a second-he put his money in and joined up right away.

Ian said, “Can you give me the details on this project?”

Alicia gave him a quick rundown of what the project was all about.

lan was immediately interested and wanted to dig deeper.

Alicia introduced Jason to him and set up a time for them to meet at Lucent Media and talk things over.

Once they wrapped up their talk about the project, lan caught wind that Alicia was planning to put her own money into producing a show.

He jumped right in and said he wanted to invest alongside her.

Just as they were talking about it, Leo and Kevin came striding over.

Leo shot Alicia a look full of displeasure and demanded, “Ally, why are you two having dinner together?”

lan was the man Leo hated most from the past-his old rival in love. Seeing his daughter getting involved with him made Leo absolutely livid.

Alicia turned to Leo and said. “Mr. Hammond, don’t you think you’re meddling a bit too much?”

Leo frowned. “I’m your father. Stop calling me ‘Mr. Hammond all the time.”

It really stung to hear her call him that.

Alicia shot him a look of utter disbelief. Former dad.”

“Mr. Hammond, is your memory slipping with age or what?

“Did you seriously forget I cut you all off just a few days ago?”

She gave him a mocking half-smile. “Maybe I should film a breakup video and tag Hammond Group on X-would that help you remember?”

Leo’s face darkened. “Why do you have to stir up all this drama?”

Alicia, clearly losing patience, said, “I’ve already explained it. I’m not going to say it again.

“Aren’t you guys tired of this? We’ve already cut ties, so why do you keep popping up in front of me?”

Leo was absolutely livid at her words and attitude. I’m your father, and nothing you do can change that. You want to cut me off? I won’t let it happen.”

Alicia raised an eyebrow. “Seriously, you’ve got some thick skin-still refusing to let go even after all this.

“And honestly, whether you agree or not doesn’t matter. I’m not going to recognize you as family anyway.”

Leo stared at her in disbelief.

She actually had the guts to call him thick-skinned.

And she did it right in front of the guy he hated most.

His voice rose, thick with anger as he glared at Alicia. “Ally, are you done with all this drama yet?

“My patience is running out.”

Alicia frowned, clearly unimpressed. “Leo, this is a restaurant, you know. There are people around.

“Your loud voice is bothering everyone here.

“Do you have any class at all?”

“Good thing I already cut ties with you-otherwise, it’d be so embarrassing to be seen with you.”

Leo’s eyes went wide-he was totally blindsided. He never imagined Alicia would actually say something like that to his face.

Kevin was totally shocked too.

‘Damn, my sister’s really roasting everyone in the Hammond family.

‘Looks like even Dad’s not getting a pass, he thought to himself.
