Rising From Betrayal Reborn As The Family Outcast novel Chapter 91

Chapter 91

Kevin listened to his brothers and realized that Alicia cutting ties with the family was really having a significant impact on everyone at home.

That’s why I wanted to talk to you guys. What do you think about the shares?” Kevin asked.

Austin thought for a moment. “Since Dad said he might give shares to that woman and her daughter in the future, we could sign a power of attorney contract.

Then we can do the same.

“We can let Dad manage the shares for us, but we’ll still get the dividends ourselves.

The shares will still be ours, and we get to call the shots on what happens to them down the line.”

He continued. “And since he’s planning to give shares to that woman and her daughter, shouldn’t we get a piece of the pie

100?

“I mean, we’re his actual sons, after all.”

Back then. Austin didn’t really pay much attention to his three percent stake. He figured he could earn his own keep and wouldn’t be missing out on that little bit of money.

But now that the company was in trouble, a single misstep or cash flow problem could mean the whole thing going under.

That was when he realized just how valuable those shares really were.

“Back when Dad suggested Ally should give Nicole half her shares because it was ‘fair, we actually thought it sounded reasonable.

“We were even on board to talk to Ally about it.

“Looking back now, that was pretty unfair.

“Dad really had some nerve,” Austin said.

You don’t feel the pain until it happens to you.

Back then, they hadn’t really thought it through. They didn’t care much about the shares and figured it wouldn’t really matter if Alicia handed over half of hers.

Now, they realized just how clueless they’d been.

Caleb said, “Yeah, honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ally already knew about all this. No wonder she’s been so pissed at us.

“I’m with Austin on this. Instead of handing over the shares, let’s just sign a power of attorney.”

Kevin nodded. “Alright, we’ll go with the power of attorney.”

As the heir, Kevin had not only the three percent shares his mother gave him but also an additional ten percent that his grandfather transferred to him before he passed away.

Normally, he wouldn’t have minded handing them over to his dad first.

But with two new wild cards in the mix, he wasn’t about to just hand them over anymore.

Kevin added, “I wonder if Dad will even agree to it.”

Caleb said, “If he doesn’t, we can’t just let him have his way.

“If he insists we hand over our shares, you can call his bluff, Kevin. Tell him to transfer all his shares to you first.

“That way, the Hammond family still controls the company. Whether you or Dad hold the shares, it’s all the same.

“If he can do that, we’ll all transfer our shares to you too.

“Besides, you’re the heir to Hammond Group. You’ll end up with his shares sooner or later anyway-no harm in doing it a little early,” Caleb said.

Honestly, Caleb trusted Kevin way more than their own father.

After all, they’d spent way more time together over the years, and that built a lot more trust between them.

Austin said, “Yeah, sounds like a solid plan.

“Kevin, you should totally say that to Dad and see if he’ll actually go for it.”

Most of the time, they got along just fine with their stepmom and were pretty indulgent with their stepsister.

But when it came to matters of profit or shares, they just didn’t trust them with that kind of thing.

It was kind of like raising a dog-if it was always well-behaved and affectionate, of course you’d pamper it.

But the moment it tried to bite its owner, or stopped being so loyal and obedient, you’d start thinking about giving it away.

Austin thought for a moment and said, “Looking back, Mavis has spent more time with Dad than anyone else. A lot of the time, she actually went out of her way to keep us apart from him-whether it was father-son or father-daughter moments.

“The more I think about it, the more unsettling it feels. Something’s definitely off.

“There’s no way she’s not after something. I don’t believe for a second she doesn’t have an agenda.

“If Ally hadn’t cut us off like that, we probably wouldn’t have even noticed any of this.”

Kevin mulled it over for a moment, then nodded. “Alright, I’ll bring it up with Dad next time.”

After listening to his brothers, Kevin had to admit they made sense. “Honestly, we never gave it much thought before, but now that I look back, those two really might be up to something.

“Dad told me to hold off and not investigate them for now, but I still think it’s worth checking them out,” Kevin insisted.

The brothers had always stood united, and this time, they were sticking together just as firmly.

Austin and Caleb both agreed. “Yeah, we should definitely look into it,” they said.

With that, the three brothers reached a secret agreement-they’d handle this quietly and make sure Dad didn’t find out about it for now.

Kevin glanced at his brothers and asked, “What about Ally? She’s our only real sister-we can’t really cut her off for good, can

we?”

Their stepsister was always so sweet and did whatever they asked, so they ended up spoiling her a bit.

But honestly, the trust and bond just weren’t the same as what they had with their real sister.

It was even more uncomfortable now that they realized their stepsister might not be as innocent and harmless as she always seemed.

Caleb said. “For the next live reality show, Maxwell has to go to training and can’t make it, so I asked Nicolas to go with me instead.

“I’ll try to talk to Ally and see if I can persuade her.”

He said sadly, “I grew up with her-we have the deepest bond. I really don’t want us to end up cutting ties.”

Back when Alicia still cared about him, Caleb thought she’d always be the same, no matter what happened.

So, feeling sorry for their stepsister-and with Dad and the other brothers influencing him-even though Alicia couldn’t stand it, he still ended up spoiling the stepsister more.

But when Alicia stopped caring and cut him off, that’s when it hit him how important she really was.

Kevin nodded. “It’s up to you now.”

Even if it’s a long shot, it’s still better than just sitting back and doing nothing.

They all wished they could go back to the days when the siblings stuck together and nothing could break them apart.

Meanwhile, Leo was sitting in his hospital room, facing Mavis and her daughter, who had rushed over as soon as they heard he was in the hospital, both of them wiping away tears.

Even though he knew they were just worried about him, Leo was already in a foul mood, and watching them cry nonstop only made him more irritated.

Things had been going smoothly in the family, but with them crying all the time, it just felt like bad luck was hanging over the place.

All he could do was try to comfort them and tell them to stop crying.

What Leo didn’t realize was that his three sons had already teamed up and were getting ready to take him on.

If he knew, he probably wouldn’t even be in the mood to comfort his wife and daughter.

Kevin didn’t go straight to Leo to talk about it.

Instead, he decided to wait and see how things would play out with the Hammond Group shares.

If Alicia really did sell her shares to that big shareholder, he’d only bring it up with Leo when his dad actually asked him to transfer his own shares.

But if Collin was wrong and Alicia sold to someone else, then there wouldn’t even be a reason to talk about transferring shares at all.

A couple of days later, that major shareholder went public with the news that he’d bought Alicia’s shares.

Even though he was still five percent short of Leo’s total shares, two other shareholders each entrusted three percent of their shares to him.

With that, the big shareholder’s stake now exceeded Leo’s.

So, Leo told his three sons to transfer their shares to him.

Kevin laid out his brothers’ plan to Dad.

Leo totally lost it—he was barely out of the hospital for a day before he had to check right back in.

Handing over all his shares to Kevin? Not a chance. The old man wasn’t ready to retire anytime soon.

Backed into a corner, he had no choice but to agree to the power of attorney deal.

The day they signed the power of attorney agreement, Austin asked their dad to release some funds so he could help steady the company’s shaky situation.

Caleb also tried to get their dad to invest in his new show, hoping it would take some of the pressure off.

But Leo, still pissed about the whole shares situation, shot them both down without a second thought.

The three of them got into a heated argument and ended up storming off, everyone in a foul mood.

Kevin didn’t ask for any money himself, but it was clear he was siding with his brothers.

Leo was not only pissed off-this whole thing really got under his skin.

‘Can you believe it? My own sons don’t even trust me anymore.

‘Unbelievable. I’m not even dead yet and they’re already trying to split up my assets,’ he grumbled to himself.

Meanwhile, the three Hammond brothers all felt a bitter taste in their mouths.

Seriously, their dad was being ridiculously stingy with them.

They were handling real business here, and he wouldn’t even cough up a dime to help out.

‘Had Mavis and her daughter really brainwashed him so badly he was ready to hand everything over to them?’ they wondered.

When they weren’t strapped for cash, they didn’t give a second thought to how Dad planned to divvy up his assets.

But now that money was tight, they had no choice but to care.

Plus, blood should come first-and honestly, they thought their dad was way out of line.

Back in the day, their mom sold her shares in the Delaney Group just to buy Hammond Group stock and help the company survive that crisis.

She was always their dad’s right-hand woman-whenever he ran into trouble, he’d turn to her for advice.

She’d done so much for the Hammond family and Hammond Group, but Leo never once transferred a single share to her

Mavis and her daughter hadn’t lifted a finger for the family. All they ever did was mooch off the Hammond family’s money, and if it weren’t for the Hammond family’s protection, they’d still be stuck in that nightmare of a life they came from

‘Seriously, what makes them think they deserve a fat slice of the Hammond family’s fortune?’ the brothers thought, their irritation growing by the minute.

It seriously pissed them off.

Meanwhile, Nicole had been trying to reach Collin for two days straight, but he just wouldn’t pick up. Left with no other option, she had no choice but to turn to her three brothers for help.

Normally, the three of them would have jumped at the chance to go after Collin for her.

But this time, each of them came up with an excuse to turn her down.

Nicole never thought her brothers would actually say no to her. She felt a sinking sense of dread in her gut.

Ever since Alicia blew up and cut everyone off, everything had started spiraling out of control.

Nicole clenched her fists. ‘No way. I can’t let this keep happening. Something has to change.
