When Andy confirmed his identity, Dylan’s jaw went slack. His eyes widened in dread as they flickered toward Matthew. “Then… that wouldn’t be Mr. Stewart, would it?”

Oh God–the man standing before us is from the Stewart family?

They were in the presence of the absolute highest echelon of society.

Without another second’s hesitation, Dylan scrambled to his feet and hurried over to Matthew, his words tumbling out in a panicked rush. “Mr. Stewart, I was blind–I didn’t recognize you. Please, I beg you, don’t hold my behavior against me! What happened was entirely because of Arabella. Please, be generous and let this go!”

Seeing how terrified Dylan was, and hearing him call the man “Mr. Stewart“, Harper put two and two together.

Back at the auction, when they had gone upstairs hoping to meet Matthew, they had been trying to get close to Matthew himself–they just hadn’t managed to see him then.

She never imagined their first meeting would be under circumstances like these. A wave of instant regret washed over Harper. If she hadn’t picked a fight with Arabella, Dylan wouldn’t have gotten physical, and they would never have offended Matthew.

What were they supposed to do now?

Frantic, Harper rushed over to Matthew as well. “Mr. Stewart, please don’t be angry. This really was all Arabella’s fault–otherwise, things would never have gotten so out of hand. Look, Dylan and I are the ones who got hurt here. Since you’re here now, could you please help settle this fairly?” She even seized the chance to complain about Arabella to him.

“Harper, you really have a talent for twisting the story. You think talking to him will get you anywhere?” Arabella found Harper’s performance utterly shameless.

“Of course it will! Mr. Stewart-”

“That’s enough. It sounds like the two of you need to check yourselves into the hospital for a full neurological workup. You dare lay a hand on Dr. Macdonald, and you don’t even have the sense to know where you are.” Matthew’s expression was glacial, his voice devoid of any warmth.

Edward, Harper, and Dylan all stared at Arabella in stunned disbelief upon hearing Matthew refer to her as “Dr. Macdonald“.

Andy immediately seized Dylan’s arm and began dragging him toward the door.

“Harper, help me! I don’t want any broken bones!” Dylan yelled.

Harper looked desperately at Matthew. “Mr. Stewart, please, let Dylan go! We admit we were wrong!”

Matthew ignored her completely, turning his gaze instead to Arabella.

Realizing she was getting nowhere with Matthew, Harper had no choice but to look at Arabella, forcing the words out. “Arabella… could you please let Dylan go?”

“Seems to me you still haven’t fully grasped what you did wrong.” Arabella shot her a piercing look.

Harper glared back angrily, but with Dylan already being hauled through the doorway, she swallowed her pride and tried to sound as sincere as possible. “Dr. Macdonald, we never should have started anything with you. We were in the wrong from the beginning. Please, be the bigger person and let us go this once!”

Seeing that Harper’s attitude was finally somewhat acceptable, Arabella felt a slight sense of satisfaction.

“Don’t ever let me see you around here again. Otherwise, next time, it won’t just be him. leaving with broken bones…”

A cold shiver ran down Harper’s spine. When had Arabella become so intimidating?

“Okay, I understand.” With that, Harper rushed out after Dylan, terrified that even a moment’s delay might cost him a limb.

Only after Harper had left did the room finally settle into quiet.

Edward looked at Arabella, his face full of curiosity. “Arabella, just now Dylan called him Mr. Stewart… that wouldn’t be the Mr. Stewart from Horizon Corp, would it?”

Arabella glanced at Matthew and nodded. “Yes, it is.”

He immediately put on a respectful smile and addressed Matthew. “My apologies, Mr. Stewart. You had to witness such an unpleasant scene.”

“It’s fine,” Matthew replied with a slight nod.

“Arabella, please ask Mr. Stewart to have a seat,” Edward said.

Finally having a moment, Arabella turned to Matthew. “How did you know we were here?”

“Of course I knew,” Matthew replied, his tone casual.

Right–he already knew about her connection to Edward, so of course he’d know which room they were in.

“What are you doing here?” Arabella asked.

“I just stepped in to help, and I don’t even get a ‘thank you?” Matthew’s brow furrowed slightly.

Arabella let out a short laugh. “I didn’t need your help. They couldn’t have laid a finger on me anyway.”

“Oh? You’re that tough?” A flicker of playful disbelief danced in Matthew’s eyes.

“You haven’t seen what I can do yet,” Arabella said, a sharp edge flashing in her gaze.

“Is that so? If I’d known you were that capable, I would’ve given you the chance to show off earlier. How about this–I can have Andy bring them back for a rematch,” Matthew teased.

Arabella rolled her eyes. “No thanks.”

They had completely forgotten Edward was there, not realizing he was watching their exchange in a daze.

Listening to them banter like old acquaintances, Edward couldn’t help but wonder when Arabella had gotten to know the CEO of Horizon Corp on such familiar terms.

He looked at Arabella, his expression puzzled. “Arabella, is Mr. Stewart… a friend of yours?”

As unlikely as it seemed, that appeared to be the only explanation.
