“Don’t forget to deliver the medicine,” Matthew reminded her coolly, watching her retreating figure.
“I won’t forget.”
With that, Arabella left the hospital. Once outside, she got straight into her car and drove toward her pharmaceutical company to pick up Robert’s medication.
While she was driving, her phone rang. She answered it via the car’s hands–free system.
“Arabella, where are you?” Ethan’s voice came through the speaker.
“Ethan? I’m driving right now. What’s up?” Arabella asked.
“I’m at the pharmaceutical company Grandpa gave you. If you’re free, you should come by,” Ethan said, a cheerful note in his tone.
“What are you doing there? Alright, I’m on my way,” Arabella replied, surprised by his location. She quickly changed her route and headed in that direction.
It wasn’t long before Arabella pulled into the company parking lot. She got out and walked through the main entrance into the sleek, modern lobby.
The receptionist glanced up as the doors opened. Her eyes scanned Arabella–dressed casually, looking young–and her expression became stern. “Miss, who are you here to see?”
Arabella met her gaze. “I’m looking for Ethan. Where is he?”
Hearing this unfamiliar woman refer to Ethan so casually, the receptionist gave her a more thorough once–over. She looked like a college kid with no sense of propriety.
“We’re not actively hiring for entry–level positions right now. You can submit your resume online,” the receptionist said dismissively, already looking back at her computer screen.
Arabella’s brow furrowed slightly. Did she really look like she was here for a job interview?
“Who said anything about an interview? And even if I were, is this how you speak to people?” Arabella could feel the woman’s judgment.
“How I do my job is not your concern. You need to leave. This isn’t a place for loitering,” the receptionist snapped, her tone growing sharp with impatience.

Annoyance flared in Arabella. With an attitude like that, this probably wasn’t the first time this woman had been rude to a visitor.
If even the front–desk staff acted this way, it spoke poorly of the company’s culture.
“Whether this is the place for me or not isn’t your call. But it looks like you might not be working here much longer.”
“Hmph, where did this rude girl come from, trying to start trouble? Do you have any idea what this company is? Get out now, or I’ll call security.”
The receptionist picked up her desk phone. “Security, there’s an unruly individual causing a disturbance in the main lobby. Please come immediately.”
“You’re going to regret this,” Arabella said calmly. She ignored the woman and pulled out her phone to call Ethan.
“I’m here. Where are you?”
“I’m upstairs in your office. Come on up,” Ethan said.
“Your receptionist is quite a piece of work. She’s stopped me and is threatening to have security throw me out,” Arabella explained.
“What?! Those idiots… Don’t be angry. I’m coming down right now,” Ethan said before hanging
By then, two security guards had arrived in the lobby from a side door.
Arabella glanced at them, completely unruffled.
“She’s the one causing the disturbance,” the receptionist said, pointing at Arabella.
One of the guards, an older man with a more professional demeanor, stepped forward. “Miss, this is a private pharmaceutical research facility. If you don’t have an appointment or legitimate business here, I’ll have to ask you to leave.”
Arabella looked at him. At least this man was polite, unlike the receptionist. She wondered who had hired such a person for the front desk.
“I’m here to meet someone. He’s on his way down now.”
“Miss, please don’t make us enforce this. If the person you’re looking for isn’t expecting you, you really should leave,” the guard said, gesturing toward the exit.

“If you make me leave, you’ll all be out of a job shortly.”

“You seem more reasonable than she is,” Arabella continued, looking directly at the guard who had spoken. “Throw her out, and I’ll make sure you get a significant raise later.”
The guards exchanged looks of sheer disbelief. The younger one almost laughed. “Miss, do you own the place or something? Telling us to fire the receptionist? We’ll be lucky if our supervisor doesn’t write us up for not escorting you out faster.
“A raise? Yeah, right. Seriously, time to go,” the younger guard said, his patience clearly gone as he moved to guide her toward the doors.
Just as they were about to usher her out, the elevator doors pinged open, and Ethan strode across the marble floor with purpose.
“What is going on here?!” Ethan’s deep, authoritative voice cut through the tension in the lobby.
The guards immediately turned, their postures straightening. “Mr. Hamilton, there was a disturbance. We’re handling it,” the older guard explained.
Ethan shot him an incredulous look. “A disturbance? Don’t you know who she is?”
The guard glanced back at Arabella, then at Ethan, and shook his head slowly. “No, sir, I don’t.”
Ethan was momentarily speechless. “You don’t recognize the owner of the company? Unbelievable!”
“Th–the owner?!” The words came out as a stunned chorus from both guards and the receptionist, whose face had suddenly lost all its color. This young woman was their boss?!
“Arabella, are you okay?” Ethan asked, his voice now filled with concern as he looked her over. Arabella’s expression was cool. “If you’d been any later, I might not have been.”
“My fault entirely. I should have been down here to meet you,” Ethan said, genuine remorse in his voice.
