“Mrs. Hamilton is such a gracious and elegant woman. To think you were just an imposter all along!” the heiress sneered, emboldened by the gossip.

“How dare you speak about my cousin that way! I’ll scratch your eyes out!” Ruby lunged forward, aiming straight for the young woman’s face.

With Matthew gone and Florence not present to intervene, Naomi made no move to stop Ruby. She was seething herself.

If she weren’t so conscious of maintaining her own decorum, she would have joined Ruby in teaching these sharp–tongued socialites a lesson. For now, she could only stand by, watching Ruby defend her claimed status.

Inside her car, Arabella spotted the small medicine bottle that had rolled onto the passenger seat. She picked it up and handed it to Matthew. “Here. It must have fallen out of my bag in here earlier.”

As Matthew took the bottle, their fingers brushed briefly.

The fleeting contact sent a subtle, unexpected jolt through Arabella, and she withdrew her hand quickly.

Matthew also registered the soft touch but remained impassive, the corner of his mouth curving into a slight, unreadable smile. He casually shifted the subject. “Have those two from the Macdonald family been bothering you again?”

“No, they haven’t. Why do you ask?” Arabella raised a curious eyebrow.

“Good. I just wanted to be certain. After all, you’re my grandfather’s primary physician. I can’t have you getting injured.” His concern, he implied, was purely practical–any harm to her would impede Robert’s treatment.

Arabella offered a faint, wry smile. What a dutiful grandson.

“Are you planning to go back inside?” Matthew asked, glancing toward the exhibition center.

Arabella followed his gaze and murmured, “There’s not much left in there that interests me. I think I’ll go attend to something else.”

By now, the interior was likely a battlefield of clashing egos. She had no intention of walking back into that fray.

Besides, she’d just left very conspicuously with Matthew, and all those socialites had been vying for his attention. They were undoubtedly simmering with resentment by now.

Even if she didn’t return, she doubted Florence would mind. In fact, leaving with Matthew was probably precisely what her mother had hoped for.

Assuming Arabella was heading to the hospital to see Edward, Matthew offered, “Where are you headed? I can give you a ride.”

“That won’t be necessary. I drove myself,” Arabella stated plainly.

Matthew eyed her modest sedan, his brow furrowing slightly. “This is your car? What happened to the sports car?”

“That one draws too much attention. I prefer to keep a lower profile.

“Alright. I’ll be on my way now.” Not wishing to elaborate, Arabella opened her car door.

“Wait.” Matthew suddenly remembered something.

“Is there something else?” Arabella paused, looking back at him.

“I don’t have your banking information. How would you like me to transfer your consultation fees?” Matthew inquired.

“Don’t high–powered CEOs usually just hand over checks? You need an account number?” Arabella frowned slightly, amused.

Matthew’s grin held a hint of mischief. “You’ve been watching too many dramas. Send me your details later.”

“Sure. Goodbye.” With that, Arabella started the engine and drove away from the exhibition

center.

Moments later, Lena brought Arabella to the serene, plant–filled sunroom where Ryan was slowly moving through a series of gentle, fluid stretches.

“Look who decided to visit,” Lena announced as they entered.

Ryan paused and turned at the sound of her voice.
