Chapter 116 The Handover of Power

“No, of course not,” Ryan answered without a second thought. “If you decided to let someone go, they must have had it coming. Besides, I handed the company over to you–you’re the one calling the shots now. Every decision is yours to make.”
“You really trust me on this, Grandpa,” Arabella said with a grateful smile.
“You’re my granddaughter. Did you think I wouldn’t know what you’re capable of?” Ryan’s eyes held a firm, unwavering belief. He had complete faith in the abilities of his grandkids.
“Now that you’ve had a look around the company, what’s your take?” Switching to business mode, Ryan studied her with a keen gaze, eager to hear her thoughts.
“Overall, it’s in good shape. The main issue is the R&D department–their workspace is too tight, which is holding them back. Ethan actually brought up investing in an expansion yesterday. I wanted to run it by you first,” Arabella explained, looking to him for his perspective.
“And what do you think about Ethan’s proposal to fund the expansion?” Ryan turned the question back on her instead of answering directly.
A more serious, shrewd business demeanor settled over the older man then. He was testing her judgment.
Arabella answered thoughtfully, “I went through Ethan’s expansion plans. They’re solid–well- researched and carefully laid out. I also took a look at the bigger picture. Besides R&D, a few other teams could really use more room to breathe.
“So, in my opinion, moving forward with the expansion is a smart investment,” she continued, outlining the bottlenecks she’d noticed.
Ryan gave a slow, approving nod. “If you believe it’s the right move, then trust your instinct and
go ahead.
“From now on, you don’t need to check with me on company decisions. I can tell you’ve got a good head for this,” Ryan praised, his confidence in her evident.
After just one visit, she’d pinpointed problems and shown she could handle them. To Ryan, Arabella was a natural.
“So, you’re giving the green light for the expansion?” Arabella pressed, her expression serious.
“Yes,” Ryan confirmed with another nod.

“Great. I’ll head over to see Ethan then–he’s been waiting to hear back from you,” Arabella said, her smile returning.
“Go ahead.”
After saying her goodbyes to Ryan, Arabella left Hamilton Manor.
Once in the car, she texted Ethan. “Send me your address. I’ll be there soon.”
“Sure thing. Did Grandpa agree?” Ethan guessed.
“I’ll fill you in when I get there,” Arabella replied, a hint of playfulness in her tone.
“Keeping me in suspense, huh? Alright, I’ll be waiting,” Ethan wrote back, chuckling to himself.
Ethan set down his phone and picked up the office line, instructing his assistant, “Get the good coffee and pastries ready, will you?”
Then, he settled in at his desk to wait for Arabella.
It wasn’t long before she arrived at his company building.
The elevator doors opened, and Ethan’s assistant spotted her immediately.
He stepped forward promptly. “Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Hamilton asked me to wait here for you.”
Arabella gave a slight nod.
“Right this way.”
The assistant opened the door to Ethan’s office and announced, “Mr. Hamilton, your sister is here.”
Ethan glanced up from his desk toward the door and shook his head in amusement. “You really love a dramatic reveal, don’t you? Come on, out with it–did Grandpa say yes?”
“It’s not dramatic, I just thought I’d save the news for in person,” Arabella shot back with a raised eyebrow, taking a seat across from him.
“Here, have some coffee and a pastry,” Ethan offered, sliding a cup her way.
“Thanks,” Arabella said, accepting it with a smile. She took a sip. “Mmm, this is good. Tastes like the blend you got for Grandpa.”
“That’s the one, same beans.

“I don’t break out the good stuff for just anyone, you know,” Ethan replied warmly. He truly had a soft spot for Arabella.
Even if Naomi had dropped by, he probably wouldn’t have served this particular roast.
“So, my visit rates the premium treatment, huh Ethan?” Arabella teased, looking rather pleased with herself.
“Absolutely,” Ethan said, his tone joking but his eyes
sincere.
“If you like it, help yourself. I had it prepared specially for you,” he added affectionately, no longer pushing for an answer right away.
“Alright then. Today’s trip wasn’t a waste–getting the VIP treatment feels pretty nice,” Arabella joked contentedly, finishing her pastry.
After she’d had her fill, Ethan finally circled back. “You showing up like this means you’ve already talked to Grandpa, doesn’t it? There’s news on the expansion.”
His sharp eyes watched her closely.
“Just like you hoped–Grandpa gave the okay,” Arabella announced calmly.
Ethan broke into a smile. “I knew it. Whatever you propose, Grandpa’s on board.”
That small pharmaceutical venture had mostly flown under the family’s radar in the past. Ethan had once considered investing to attract talent and break into the industry, but Grandpa had turned him down, saying no one in the family had the expertise and they’d be relying entirely on outside hires.
This time, Grandpa only agreed because Arabella was involved. With her in the picture, he was willing to let them properly step into the pharmaceutical space.
“Was it really that tough a sell? The pharma sector’s booming right now–Grandpa should’ve agreed ages ago.”
