Chapter 32 Departing the Hospital

Matthew raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t expected the girl to hand him something like this–entrusting him

with her medication.

Still, he didn’t object, simply taking the bottle from her. “Alright.”

His assistant and the others standing nearby exchanged glances, visibly surprised.

They had never seen Matthew follow instructions from someone else so directly. Was the world turned upside down today?

Arabella didn’t pick up on the usual tension in the room. Seeing it was getting late, she turned to say goodbye to Robert. You should get some proper rest now. Try not to get upset or worked up. I have another commitment, so I’ll be heading out today.”

Hearing she was about to leave, Robert spoke up at once. “Matthew, see Dr. Macdonald out for me, will you?

Though he wasn’t thrilled, Matthew took a quiet breath and replied evenly, “Sure.”

And just like that, Arabella and Matthew walked out of the suite together.

Being around someone who gave off such an icy vibe was uncomfortable. The moment they stepped into the hall, Arabella glanced at Matthew and said, I’m fine from here. Goodbye.”

She really didn’t need him to escort her any further. The man’s presence alone felt overwhelming.

Watching her turn to go, Matthew still signaled to his driver. “Take Dr. Macdonald home.”

“Yes, sir,” the driver acknowledged, then hurried after her,

Once outside, Arabella noticed the driver had followed her out.

“Dr. Macdonald, the streets are pretty backed up right now. Mr. Stewart asked me to drive you home, the driver explained.

Arabella looked toward the main road–it did seem difficult to flag down a cab. After a brief pause, she accepted the offer and got into the car.

As they pulled away from the hospital, Arabella let out a soft sigh of relief.

Clients from wealthy families really were a handful.

Thankfully, everything had gone smoothly today. Otherwise, Matthew definitely wouldn’t have let it slide.

Better keep my distance from someone like him going forward.

The day passed quickly, Arabella arrived home just in time for dinner that evening. The whole family was already gathered at the table.

“You were out all day–where did you go?” Florence asked with a warm smile.

Arabella answered casually, “Just to the studio, And I let them know I’ll be leaving

Hearing that Arabella had really resigned so soon, Naomi felt a subtle weight in her chest.

She had thought Arabella might wait a little longer, but it seemed she’d made the decision right after coming home. Maybe she really was eager to join the family business.

Maybe Ruby had been right. Perhaps Arabella wasn’t as simple as she seemed.

For some reason, Naomi suddenly recalled the car she’d seen leaving Stewart Manor earlier.

Even though it seemed unlikely, she couldn’t help testing the waters. “Did you go toward the west side today, by any chance?”

The Hamiltons lived in the Sunspire District, while the Stewart place was clear across town in the west end. If Arabella had really been there, she’d have said so,

But Arabella simply shook her head. “No.”

Inside, though, she paused briefly,

Why was Naomi asking that?

She had been on the west side today. Had Naomi spotted her?

Still, she didn’t want her parents knowing about her other work, so she kept her answer short.

“That’s what I figured,” Naomi murmured quietly.

She and Ruby must have been mistaken earlier…

Florence didn’t press further. Seeing that dinner was ready, she invited them both to the table.

Soon Jonathan came downstairs as well. Noticing Arabella, he asked right away, “You were gone all day- did you wrap things up at the studio?”

“Yes, I did,” Arabella replied calmly.

“Good. That means you’re free tomorrow, then? After breakfast, I’d like to take you to see your grandparents. Jonathan’s eyes softened as he looked at her.

After all, his own daughter was back–of course he wanted his parents to meet their granddaughter.

“Sure,” Arabella said. She hadn’t realized there were grandparents in the picture, but she understood her father’s wish perfectly. After agreeing, she quietly continued with her meal.

Hearing that Jonathan planned to take Arabella to visit their grandparents, Naomi spoke up. “Dad, how have Grandma and Grandpa been lately?”

“They’re doing well. They just miss seeing everyone, that’s all.”

“You haven’t visited in a while either, have you? Are you free tomorrow? Jonathan asked, turning to Naomi.

“I’m not busy. I’ve actually been meaning to stop by and see them. Since you’re going tomorrow, I’ll come along.” Naomi said brightly, then glanced toward Arabella.

She knew Arabella hadn’t met the elders since returning. Jonathan taking her tomorrow was clearly about formally introducing her to the family.

But Naomi had always been close with her grandparents, and she didn’t want that bond to fade just because Arabella was now in the picture.

Besides, she’d been wrapped up in competition preparations lately and really hadn’t visited in too long.

Tomorrow was a good chance to go… and also to see how her grandparents would react to Arabella.

For some reason, she found herself quietly hoping that their attitude toward Arabella might be different from her parents‘ and brothers–that even with Arabella here, they might still show her the same affection as before.

Hearing Naomi would be joining them, Arabella didn’t mind one way or the other.

But if she was going to meet her grandparents for the first time, what kind of gift should she bring?

After finishing her meal, Arabella set down her fork and looked toward Florence. “Mom… what do Grandma and Grandpa like?”
