Arabella walked over and said, “The calligraphy was just a regular auction item–nothing out of the ordinary. Please don’t wait dinner for me; I have plans and need to head out.”
“Arabella, if you’re not eating here, where are you going?” Florence asked, concerned.
After a moment’s thought, Arabella saw no reason to hide it. “I’m going to visit Edward.”
“Who’s Edward?” Florence hadn’t heard the name before.
“Edward is the brother from the Macdonald family. He’s always been very kind to me. He was still unwell when I left, and I want to check on how he’s doing now.” Arabella gave a brief explanation to reassure her.
Hearing this, Florence frowned slightly, finding it hard to believe. If someone in the
Macdonald family had truly been good to Arabella, she wouldn’t have returned in such a plain state–Florence still remembered the simple, unremarkable clothes Arabella had worn when she first arrived.
“Well, you shouldn’t go alone. Since he’s your brother and was there for you before, I’ll come along to see him.”
“Wait here–I’ll just go change,” Florence said, turning toward the stairs.
Seeing Florence’s intention to join her, Arabella gently took her hand. “Mom, a place like Macdonald Villa isn’t somewhere you should visit. It’s… rather modest. Please stay home–I won’t be long.”
She was worried that if Florence came face–to–face with the less respectful members of the Macdonald family, or if they realized Arabella’s new family background, it might lead to unwanted complications.
“It’s perfectly fine. Why shouldn’t I visit somewhere modest? It’s not like a modest home is going to bite,” Florence replied with a soft laugh.
“Mom…” Arabella still hesitated.
At that moment, Naomi spoke up thoughtfully, “Mom, if you’re worried, why not let Ruby and I go with her instead?”
She was curious to see what kind of place Arabella had come from and what her former family was like.

“Yes, Aunt Florence, we can keep Naomi company,” Ruby added, equally eager to see how humble Arabella’s previous life might have been–perhaps some remote, run–down village.
Arabella glanced at them and offered an excuse. “Where I used to live is quite out of the way, and the roads can be rough. You’d be better off staying here. Otherwise, I might end up having to look after you both.”
Naomi and Ruby were taken aback. Since when did they need looking after? Maybe she was just embarrassed for them to see how simple her old home was.
“Don’t worry about that, Arabella. We’ve traveled before–we’ve handled worse roads,” Ruby said, a hint of sarcasm in her tone.
Hearing this, Arabella’s expression cooled slightly. “This isn’t a sightseeing trip. You should stay home.”
She turned back to Florence with a reassuring smile. “Really, Mom, I’ll be back before you know it.”
Florence could tell Arabella didn’t want Naomi and Ruby to join, but she still felt uneasy her going alone. “Arabella, I really think I should come.”

“Mom, truly, it’s not necessary.”
Seeing Arabella in a difficult position, Frank stepped in to help. “Mom, Arabella is visiting her former brother. You’re from an older generation–if you go along, it might make the other person uncomfortable.
“Besides, you’d need time to change, and Arabella is in a hurry. Why not let Ethan go with her instead? They’re closer in age, and it won’t feel as formal.”
Florence paused, considering Frank’s words.
Ethan looked at Frank, slightly puzzled, until a subtle glance from his brother made him understand. “He’s right, Mom. I’ll go with Arabella. With me there, you won’t have to worry.”
He knew Florence was concerned about Arabella returning to her former family alone.
“Alright then. Arabella, is it okay if Ethan accompanies you?” Florence asked.
Arabella looked at Ethan. She knew if she refused, Florence would insist on coming herself. Reluctantly, she agreed. “Okay. Thank you, Ethan.”
Still, it was better than having Naomi and Ruby tag along.

“No trouble at all. I can give you a few tips on handling that car on the way,” Ethan said lightly.
Beside them, Ruby muttered under her breath, “She still won’t let us come… She probably doesn’t want us to see how run–down her old place is.”
Naomi also felt a twinge of disappointment. She would have liked to see Macdonald Villa for herself.
Soon after, Florence and the others walked Arabella and Ethan out to the front driveway.
“Wow! Look at that car–it’s incredible! I love it!” Ruby exclaimed the moment she saw the sports car parked outside.
Her outburst immediately drew everyone’s attention toward the driveway.
