“Arabella, come over here and see what I got for you,” Edward said, gesturing warmly.

“Mango? You must’ve had someone get it just for me,” Arabella replied with a smile. He was the only one in this family who remembered how much she loved it.

“Have some.” As he spoke, Edward finally noticed someone standing behind Arabella.

He frowned slightly, looking at Ethan. “And this is…?”

Only then did Arabella realize she’d forgotten to introduce them.

“Edward, this is Ethan–he’s family now,” she said, deliberately keeping Ethan’s background

vague.

“Ethan, this is Edward, the brother I told you about,” she added, completing the introduction.

Hearing that Ethan was part of Arabella’s new family, and seeing that his appearance didn’t match the “unemployed drifter” description Carter had given, Edward felt a wave of relief. It seemed Arabella’s new situation was better than he’d feared.

“Nice to meet you. Please, have a seat,” Edward said with a kind smile.

“Thanks,” Ethan replied, sitting down.

Seeing firsthand how much Edward cared for Arabella, Ethan felt his own reservations ease a little.

“Arabella, seeing that your family isn’t what your father made them out to be… I feel much better,” Edward said, his eyes full of quiet concern.

Arabella was momentarily at a loss for words.

So Carter hadn’t even bothered to check properly—he’d just called them unemployed drifters. No wonder Edward had been so worried.

Maybe bringing Ethan today hadn’t been such a bad idea after all.

“See, I told you I was doing fine. So please focus on getting better and stop worrying about me.

“This is the medication I picked up for you. I’ll leave it here. You have to keep taking it regularly–just let me know when you’re running low, and I’ll bring more,” Arabella said gently.

“You don’t have to come all the way back and forth. It’s too much trouble–I can have someone here get it,” Edward replied, still concerned for her.

“What, you don’t want to see me anymore? Fine, have someone else get it then,” Arabella teased, pretending to be offended.

Edward chuckled softly. “You know that’s not it. I just don’t want you tiring yourself out.”

“It’s not tiring. It’s just dropping off medicine. How hard could that be?”

“Alright, alright. I’ll tell you when I need more, okay?” Edward gave in affectionately. He might not have been her biological brother, but in his heart, she mattered more than one.

Suddenly, Edward glanced at Ethan beside him. “Sorry you have to see this. Arabella and I are always like this.”

“It’s fine. I think it’s great. Seeing how much you care about her actually puts me at ease,” Ethan said honestly.

Anyone who genuinely cared for Arabella was alright in his book.

“That’s good to hear,” Edward said.

“If you don’t mind me asking, what line of work are you in?” Edward wanted to know more about the family Arabella was now part of.

“I’m-”

Worried Ethan might give too much away, Arabella quickly cut in. “He’s a manager at a company. Nothing too fancy, but it’s stable and the pay is decent. Not much else to say, really.”

She didn’t forget to shoot Ethan a meaningful glance.

Ethan looked at her in surprise. Since when was he just a manager?

He was one of the most influential investors around–why was she downplaying him like this? But seeing Arabella’s repeated subtle signals, he played along and nodded with a polite smile.

Seeing Ethan confirm it, Edward seemed satisfied.

“A managerial role with stable income is perfectly respectable.

“Arabella, your former instructor mentioned you left the studio job. What happened?” Edward asked, a hint of confusion in his tone.

“The new place is fine. I’m still settling in,” Arabella replied lightly.

Ethan was quietly impressed by how smoothly Arabella crafted her answers.

Edward nodded, somewhat relieved. “That’s good. When you’re working, remember to take care of yourself. Don’t overdo it. And if money’s ever tight, you come to me.

“Also, I asked you for your bank details–why haven’t you sent them?” Edward added, a touch of sternness in his voice.

“I told you–I get more allowance now than I know what to do with. How could I be short on money?

“Look at Ethan–does he look like someone who’d skimp on my spending money?” Arabella said, using Ethan as a shield.

Ethan promptly smiled in agreement, his expression toward Edward calm and confident–as if to say, “Money is not an issue.”

Edward studied Ethan and had to admit he didn’t look like someone who struggled financially. “Where are you living now?” Edward asked, still attentive.

A faint smile touched Ethan’s lips. He wondered how Arabella would talk her way out of this

one.

Arabella thought for a moment. “I’m staying on the quieter side of the Sunspire District.”

The quieter side of Sunspire District? She really was something–why not just say the middle of nowhere? Ethan raised a brow slightly, glancing at Arabella with mild amusement.
