“Was this related to your visit yesterday?” Jonathan asked.

The moment he spoke, Naomi understood. So Ethan and Arabella had gone to the very Macdonald family in the news.

No wonder Arabella could be a doctor and knew her way around an auction. She clearly isn’t the simple country girl we assumed.

“What are you all talking about?” Arabella asked as she walked into the room.

Arabella frowned slightly. Why was Jonathan so serious this early in the morning?

Outside, Arabella dialed Colton’s number.

“Fortunately, I pulled out a significant portion the day before yesterday, but some was still left. I was planning to move the rest this week. I thought their collapse would come after we were fully out–not before.

“It’s strange. Have the Macdonalds angered someone influential recently?” Colton couldn’t help but speculate.

He hadn’t expected things to unravel before his second withdrawal was complete.

Arabella sighed softly. “Never mind.”

This wasn’t Colton’s fault. It was the Macdonalds who’d provoked Ethan yesterday.

She’d known Ethan wouldn’t let it slide, but she hadn’t expected him to act so swiftly.

Overnight, he’d brought down an entire established family.

She should have called Colton as soon as she got back yesterday.

“What’s our move now?” Colton asked.

“Even though they’re bankrupt, they must have salted away plenty over the years. Do what you can to recover what they owe. I want my losses covered,” Arabella stated calmly.

The Macdonald wealth had been built with her contributions. It was only right they return it. “But if we strip them clean, they’ll have nothing left. What about Edward?” Colton asked.

He wasn’t concerned about the others–but Edward was still part of that family, and Arabella cared for him.

Florence was slightly taken aback by Arabella’s composure. “Alright. Let’s have breakfast, then.”

If Arabella wasn’t troubled, neither was she.

Naomi watched Arabella eat with mild surprise.
