Said No to the Prince and Yes to the King novel Chapter 106

Chapter 106 The Poison Spread Faster Than Ever

I can’t make the trip to the Ducal Palace today.

She lay down on her bed slowly and reached for her healing salve to tend her wounds right away.

Moments later, a large group of riders arrived at the gates of Life Preserve Pavilion.

The place was as crowded and busy as always.

Yet with Christopher in their company and a grand royal escort clearing the way, they cut through the crowd with ease and headed straight up to the second floor.

The upper level held private chambers reserved for wealthy nobles. A dozen private rooms lined the floor, each staffed with its own personal doctor.

Life Preserve Pavilion spanned three full stories. The third floor housed longterm patients, and only the richest and most powerful families could afford to recover within its walls.

This was just one of their main halls, too.

They operated at least two more branch clinics across Breston alone.

They were shown into the finest luxury chamber at once. Stella and Jasper helped Christopher settle onto the soft bed at the side of the room.

Jasper said in a hurried tone, Wait here and rest, Crown Prince Christopher. I will fetch Mr. Kingston at

once.

With that, he rushed out.

Silence fell over the large room, leaving only Stella and Christopher alone.

Two guards stood posted by the door, keeping watch outside,

Stella stared at Christopher with obvious sorrow in her eyes. I am so sorry, Crown Prince Christopher. I failed to keep you safe. If I’d known Margaret would harm you, I would have sent my own servants to fetch your medicine. I stepped away for only a short while, and she took advantage of that chance to hurt you.”

Tears spilled down her cheeks as she spoke. “I cannot understand what has happened to Margaret. Has she let old heartbreak turn to hatred? She once cared for you so deeply. How could she bring herself to cause you such pain?

Rage burned bright in Christopher’s eyes. I was a fool to think her heart held no true malice. I thought she was only jealous of you, nothing more. I never imagined she’d—

A sharp wave of pain cut his words short, and he sucked in a harsh, shaky breath.

Stella’s eyes widened in alarm. Your wound is bleeding through the bandages. How is this possible? We already applied strong clotting medicine.

Christopher glanced down at his bloodstained sleeve, and his face turned pale with fear. Damn it.

Cutting away the rotten flesh did nothing to stop this poison.”

Stella wept, her shoulders trembling. This is all my fault. I should never have suggested that method. I only put you through more suffering with my poor advice.

Christopher shook his head weakly, his brows furrowed in constant pain. This is not your fault. You only acted to save my arm.

I underestimated Margaret’s cruelty. I never expected her to act so recklessly and selfishly.

Margaret has grown far too stubborn and unreasonable.Stella’s voice shook with anger. She knows nothing of healing work, yet she pretends to be skilled. She’s left you trapped in endless agony. If you never fully recover, I will set aside our sisterly bond. I will make her pay for every bit of pain you’ve endured.

Christopher spoke in a tired, weary tone. Discipline her if you must, but do not take her life.”

Stella froze for a split second, bitter resentment rising in her chest. She masked it at once and lowered her head. You show her such kindness, yet she repays you with harm. Her gratitude is truly wasted on you.”

The chamber door swung open right then, and Jasper returned with Darren close behind him.

Darren rushed straight to the bedside the second he saw Christopher’s condition. He wasted no time with formal greetings and urged Christopher to remove his outer robe for a full examination.

After checking the festering wound, sweat soaked across Darren’s forehead. This injury is far worse than I ever could have imagined.

He panted heavily, still reeling from the sight. Crown Prince Christopher, have you survived an attack by a deadly assassin? No ordinary foe would slice away layers of living flesh with such brutal cruelty. I have never seen such a vicious wound. Please lie still, and I will rebandage your injury at once.

Darren called for an assistant to bring over a set of silver needles.

One by one, he pressed the needles into key pressure points, and slow, gentle relief finally eased Christopher’s constant pain.

Darren wiped the sweat from his brow, his expression grave. Your wound is surrounded by thick, poisoned blood. This is a very dangerous sign.
