Margaret reached out to help the two girls stand when Cyan hurried over to Theodore’s side in a rush. “Prince Theodore, King Spencer has suddenly collapsed.”
Theodore frowned deeply the second he heard the news. He turned to leave at once.
He paused, then glanced over at Margaret. “Are you free to come with me?”
Margaret nodded blankly, and before she could process what was happening, Theodore had taken her hand and led her away..
She said quickly, “Stay here for now, both of you. I’ll arrange things for you once I return.”
Julie and Lisa looked up in a daze. Before they could speak their thanks, the two figures had already walked far away.
Moments later, Margaret was pulled into the carriage.
The carriage set off at once. Margaret looked confused. “Are we heading to the royal palace, Prince Theodore?”
“Yes. Spencer’s collapse is no trivial matter.” Theodore nodded.
Margaret frowned. “But the palace has dozens of royal physicians…”
“I trust your skill above all others,” Theodore said in a calm tone, his gaze steady and serious as it fell on her face.
Margaret’s heart fluttered awkwardly under his quiet stare.
How am I supposed to reply to that?
Saying thank you feels far too cold and distant, yet we are not close enough for anything warmer.
“Stay calm and follow me closely,” Theodore said, his tone soft despite his stern expression. “Only step forward if your help is needed.”
Margaret nodded gently. “I’m not nervous with you here, Prince Theodore.”
A faint flush tinted Theodore’s ears, and he turned his gaze away at once.
Worried her words sounded odd, Margaret quickly changed the subject. “By the way, may I bring my personal maid with me when I come to treat your poison from now on?”
“You may,” Theodore replied plainly. “You need not ask for permission for such small matters going forward.”
Margaret fell silent.
I’d heard the Ducal Palace never allows unrelated servants inside.

That’s why I’ve always come alone before.
As if reading her thoughts, Theodore spoke again. “Your younger sister–Stella, is it?”
Margaret froze.
Why is he asking about her all of a sudden?
Thoughts of Stella’s striking beauty stirred a quiet unease in her chest.
Could Prince Theodore also be captivated by pretty faces?
“Yes,” she said.

“Shall I have her killed?” Theodore’s tone was completely flat, as if asking what he would eat for dinner later.
Margaret’s eyes widened in shock.
What did he say?
Stella was the daughter of the Prime Minister, yet he spoke of ending her life so casually.
She could see the cold resolve in his eyes. If she nodded, he would kill Stella without hesitation.
Still, letting Stella die now would be far too merciful.
If Stella died at the height of Christopher’s affection for her, she would become an eternal, perfect memory in his heart.
Timothy and Jasper had never seen Stella’s true colors either, and they would grieve for her endlessly after her death.
But Stella had driven the original Margaret to a bitter end, leaving her with no peace even in death.
She deserved far worse than a quick, painless death.
Margaret shook her head slowly. “No. Not yet.”
Theodore closed his eyes to rest. “Call on me anytime you need it. I will deal with her for you.”
Margaret stared at his sharp, handsome side profile, a strange, indescribable emotion rising in her heart.
His features were flawless beyond compare.
Everyone spoke of him as a cold, ruthless demon who killed without mercy, yet he was gentle and thoughtful toward her.
She found herself staring, lost in thought.
He is a prince, second only to the king in power. He will surely take many wives and concubines in the future.
She shook her head quickly to clear her wandering thoughts.
