That soft childish voice, mixed with the sharp tapping on the carriage window, left Margaret stunned for a moment. Flustered from the commotion, she stepped out of the carriage and accidentally trod on the hem of Theodore’s robe.

Theodore had already stepped outside. He frowned slightly at the tug on his clothes, yet he showed no anger. Instead, he held out a hand behind him to steady her.

Margaret stepped back awkwardly. “I’m so sorry.”

She truly hadn’t meant to do it.

“The carriage is too small,” Theodore said simply, supporting her gently.

Margaret froze for a second before a shrill voice cut through the air. “Hey–who are you? How dare you step down from Uncle Theodore’s carriage?”

A young girl of thirteen or fourteen stared at her in shock. Dressed in pink, she was bright and lively, with soft baby fat on her round cheeks and a high, childish tone.

She watched Theodore steady Margaret with her own eyes, utterly stunned. “Uncle Theodore, you said no one is ever allowed to ride in your carriage with you. Not even I’ve ever been permitted inside. How can you let her…

She pointed straight at Margaret. “Answer me. Who are you?”

Margaret’s gaze had fallen on the girl the moment she stepped out.

She called Prince Theodore Uncle Theodore, and dared bang on his carriage window without fear. It is clear she is a deeply favored princess.

“I’m talking to you! Who are you?” the girl asked again.

A lady–in–waiting behind the girl spoke up at once. “Princess Noelle, this must be the young lady from the Prime Minister’s Estate.”

The maid glared coldly at Margaret. “Kneel on one knee before Princess Noelle.”

So this was Princess Noelle Hayes.

Margaret prepared to kneel in greeting, but Theodore grabbed her wrist quickly, “We must see Spencer

first.”

With that, he led Margaret forward.

Noelle froze on the spot, growing frantic. “Uncle Theodore! Wait!”

Cyan hurried after them cautiously. “Princess Noelle, Prince Theodore is in a great hurry to see King Spencer. You may speak with him later.”

He would have blocked her entirely if she were not of high royal rank.

“King Spencer has collapsed,” Cyan reminded her.

“Father already woke up,” Noelle huffed. “The royal doctor said he’s perfectly fine, no need to rush. Uncle Theodore, wait for me!”

Noelle chased after them in a rush, then reached out and grabbed Margaret’s free hand without a shred of restraint.

She said, “You’re Stella, aren’t you? Stop right there. I need to talk to you.”

Margaret’s lips twitched. “Princess Noelle, I am Stella’s elder sister, Margaret.”

Noelle’s eyes widened in shock. “That can’t be. Everyone says Margaret is terribly overweight. You’re a little plump, but… Are you–lying to me?”

She stepped forward and pulled Theodore’s hand away from Margaret’s. “Uncle Theodore, you didn’t hold my hand today at all. You ignored me, too. I want you to hold mine instead. I haven’t seen you in ages.”

Theodore’s eyes darkened. “Do not misbehave.”

“But she-”

Theodore cut in, “She is my honored guest. Show her proper respect.”

Noelle pouted, “No one holds hands with just a guest. You’re lying to me. I’m not a kid anymore.”

She tugged Margaret aside. “Father’s awake and waiting for you in his bedchamber. Why don’t you go inside first? Let me chat with this Ms. Campbell for a while.”

Theodore shot her a helpless look. “Stop being silly.”

He turned to Margaret. “She’s a spoiled child, doted on by Spencer. Pay her no mind.”

“I’m not a child,” Noelle protested,

“I will return shortly. Stay calm and cause no trouble,” Theodore said coldly.
