Stella let out a shrill cry of rage.

Jealousy gnawed at her until she was on the verge of losing her mind. Nadia hurried over to calm her down. “There are people watching. Please stay calm.”

“How can I stay calm?” Stella snapped hysterically. “Look at the state I’m in now! How am I supposed to keep my cool?

“I looked perfectly fine yesterday. Why am I swollen all over out of nowhere today? It’s Margaret. She’s behind this, I know she is.”

Nadia quickly stepped forward to steady her. “Please contain your anger. Let me walk you back to your chambers first.”

“No, I’m not going back.” Stella narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. “I’ve been wondering this all along–why would Prince Theodore take a fancy to such an ugly girl? Our realm has always admired slender grace, yet Margaret was as round as a ball when she first met him, plain and unremarkable. It’s completely unreasonable that he’d favor someone like her, don’t you think?”

Nadia thought for a moment and whispered, “Could it be that Prince Theodore simply prefers fuller- figured women?”

“That’s exactly what I was thinking.” Stella clenched her fists tight. “I’m the daughter of the Prime Minister. I’m more than worthy of being either Crown Princess or a Princess. If Margaret can easily capture his attention, there’s no reason I can’t.”

Nadia’s eyes widened in surprise. “You mean you plan to…”

Stella said, “We’re leaving the estate right now.”

Nadia grew flustered. “But you’re supposed to head to the palace tomorrow night. You ought to send for physicians at once to bring the swelling down,”

“What if Prince Theodore likes women with fuller figures?” Stella said meaningfully. “Margaret caught his eye, looking plump and ungainly. Now I’m swollen all over and look just as full–figured. If he truly has that preference, I could steal his attention away from Margaret tonight.”

With that, she strode hastily toward the gate.

Nadia rushed to follow. “But what about tomorrow…”

“If I’m back to normal by tomorrow, I’ll never know if he really favors fuller women,” Stella reasoned. “If it’s true, I can simply eat to gain weight intentionally. Crown Prince Christopher is forever bound to Queen Norma’s will, but Prince Theodore would be a far better choice.”

Even King Spencer treats him with deference–let alone Crown Prince Christopher. Haven’t you seen how terrified Crown Prince Christopher is of him every time they meet?

“Margaret struts around so arrogantly only because she’s curried Prince Theodore’s favor. If I can win him over from her, I’ll see how she dares look down on anyone ever again.”

Back in her courtyard, Margaret began jogging laps around the yard.

She worked up a full sweat before eating a light meal.

Winter dabbed the sweat from her forehead with obvious concern. “You push yourself too hard running every single day. You’ve already slimmed down so much. Why keep exhausting yourself like this?”

“It’s fine. It doesn’t tire me out at all,” Margaret replied calmly.

“Ducal Palace sent over two new sets of gowns,” Winter said. “Let me take you to pick one out to wear

tomorrow.”

Margaret said, “No need. You go rest first. We’ll worry about tomorrow when it comes.”

Winter hesitated for a moment. “Very well then…”

She obediently retreated to her own room.

After resting quietly for a while and judging that Winter must have fallen asleep, Margaret called out into the quiet night, “Baxter, are you there?”

A shadow darted out of the darkness, and Baxter appeared before her in an instant.

He said, “What are your orders, Ms. Campbell?”

“You’ve recovered quickly,” Margaret said.

Baxter bowed respectfully. “I owe it all to your excellent medical skill.”

“No need for formal pleasantries,” Margaret said. “Since you’re my shadow guard now, I won’t pry into your private matters. I just need you to do me a favor…”

Her tone held unspoken meaning. Baxter dropped to one knee at once. “Speak your wish, and I shall obey.”

Margaret said, “Teach me lightness skill.”
