Chapter 203 What Bad Luck
A woman’s cry rang out, tender and trembling, sounding utterly pitiful.
Cyan turned around and spotted a woman sprawled on the ground right in front of the carriage.

The streets lay dead quiet deep into the night, and he wondered where she could have come from out of
nowhere.
He glanced at the carriage parked nearby and froze at once. “It’s someone from the Prime Minister’s Estate.”
At those words, Theodore’s expression turned grave. He walked slowly over to the woman.
She wore only thin robes, swaying unsteadily on her feet. She would have been a breathtaking beauty if not for her newly plump, swollen figure.
Her long hair fell over her shoulders, though the volume looked unnaturally thick.
Her whole style of dress was deliberately copied from Margaret’s.
Cyan called out tentatively. “Ms. Campbell?”
A strange maid beside her began wailing. “If we cannot find a healer to treat you tonight, you’ll be stuck looking like this forever. What shall we do?”
This unknown maid was clearly not one of Margaret’s servants.
The woman on the ground lifted her head, and Cyan finally recognized her–it was the delicate, spoiled
Stella.
A flicker of disdain crossed his eyes.
Prince Theodore has been worn out handling affairs outside all day. He finally returns to the palace only to run into this troublesome woman.
What bad luck.
Still, he spoke politely. “What brings you here at this hour, Ms. Stella Campbell?”
Has something happened at the Prime Minister’s Estate?
Since the matter concerned the Prime Minister’s Estate, Theodore did not leave at once, standing quietly
aside.
Stella broke down into loud, tearful sobs,
“I’m truly sorry to intrude on you like this,” she said. “I never meant to bother you, but I have no other choice. You can see for yourself—I’ve always been slender, yet I’ve suddenly ballooned into this state, almost as plump as Margaret. The physicians say it’s severe bodily swelling, yet none of them can cure it. Father told me to go to Life Preserve Pavilion for treatment, but…”

She trailed off, sniffling loudly. Nadia hurried to speak for her. “It’s far too late now. Life Preserve Pavilion must be closed for the night. We rushed out in such a hurry that we brought no servants with us. The streets are eerily quiet after dark, and we’re terrified to travel alone. I planned to escort her back to the estate, yet I feared we might run into dangerous ruffians on the way. That’s why we parked our carriage outside the Ducal Palace.”
She paused, then dropped to one knee, imploringly. “Prince Theodore, please have mercy on her. Life Preserve Pavilion is not far from here. Would you be kind enough to escort us there? With your noble presence, even if the pavilion is closed, they will surely open its doors at once.”
Cyan said coldly, “As the daughter of the Prime Minister, you would be received properly at Life Preserve Pavilion regardless.”
“But we have no guards with us,” Nadia insisted. “We’re truly frightened to wander the streets alone at night.”
Stella shook her head tearfully. “Nadia, stop begging. This is our own trouble. We have no right to trouble Prince Theodore. I only came here to hide from my fear just now. Now that I’ve seen Prince Theodore, I’m not afraid anymore.”
“You were hit by their carriage the moment you stepped over,” Nadia chimed in deliberately. “You don’t even cry out in pain. You’re far too strong–hearted.”
The pair played off each other perfectly, then helped one another slowly to their feet.
Theodore shot them a cold, indifferent glance. “Is everything well at the Prime Minister’s Estate?”
At his direct question, Stella’s heart skipped a beat.
Why did I ever set my sights on Crown Prince Christopher before?
The man standing before me is the true, unparalleled noble of the realm.
Everyone hailed him as a mighty war general, his methods sharp and ruthless–most young ladies dare not approach him.
Yet in the end, that clumsy, plump Margaret has gotten lucky enough to win his favor.
Stella nodded demurely. “Everything is well at the estate…”
