Stella continued, “I’ve never understood it. She already has everything she could ever want, yet she still keeps picking on me. This swelling all over my body is her doing, too–and that’s far from the only wicked thing she’s done. I came here tonight uninvited, mostly to tell you the whole truth, Prince Theodore.”

Cyan frowned coldly. “What a pity Ms. Campbell has a sister like you.”

Stella froze in shock. “I’m not making up lies to slander her. Every word I say is the truth. You’ve seen it yourselves–Crown Prince Christopher still cannot forget her, and the two of them remain entangled with each other.”

She spoke urgently. “I don’t know what lies she’s told you to turn you against me, but most of what she says is false. I am nowhere near as vicious as she claims I am…”

“Do you take us for fools just like Crown Prince Christopher?” Cyan cut her off sharply.

He said, “Everyone sees how improper your relationship with Crown Prince Christopher is, yet you dare claim he never truly loved you? Have you no shame? Was it all a lie when you teamed up with him to have Ms. Campbell flogged with twenty lashes?

“Was it also a lie when she was driven to leap off a cliff by your cruelty? If she were truly as blessed and happy as you claim, you would never have had the chance to meddle between her and Crown Prince Christopher. If you were really as pitiful as you pretend to be, you wouldn’t be standing here perfectly well right now, coming to badmouth Ms. Campbell to Prince Theodore.”

Stella hurried to defend herself. “That’s not true. I never meant to hurt her. I just…”

“The truth speaks for itself,” Cyan said firmly. “Please leave at once. Out of respect for you being Ms. Campbell’s sister, Prince Theodore will not harm you. But if you speak one more word against her, do not blame me for speaking out of turn to a noble lady.”

Cyan stepped forward angrily and gestured for her to take her leave.

Still refusing to give up, Stella turned to Theodore. “Even if my relationship with Crown Prince Christopher seems improper to others, it’s only him clinging to me. He loves beautiful women, which is why he offered to take me as his consort–but his heart truly belongs to Margaret. Otherwise, he wouldn’t keep the Crown Princess position reserved for her.

“Prince Theodore, I hate to admit Margaret is such a person, but all of this is real. Margaret and Crown Prince Christopher are far too close. She is not worth the kindness you show her…”

“Slap her,” Theodore uttered only those two words, then turned and walked back into the palace, cold and distant.

Stella panicked instantly. “Prince Theodore! Every word I say is the truth! Margaret has a heart as cruel as a viper-”

A sharp slap landed across her cheek before she could finish.

Cyan struck her once, then followed with another without hesitation.

The sound of two crisp slaps echoed out, and Stella crumpled straight to the ground.

Nadia rushed forward at once to help her up. “Are you all right?”

Stella wept pitifully. “I’m telling the truth! Why won’t any of you believe me? You’ll regret being deceived by her one day.”

Cyan stepped forward, ready to strike again. Terrified, Stella scrambled clumsily to her feet and fled frantically toward her carriage.

Nadia was badly frightened, too, and quickly climbed into the carriage after her.

“Go! Hurry back to the estate!” Stella said.

Luckily, the coachman hadn’t fled.

The carriage soon sped away from outside the Ducal Palace and vanished into the night.

Cyan clapped his hands lightly. “Ran off pretty quickly.”

He’d been ready to beat both of them black and blue before sending them back.

Suddenly remembering something, Cyan hurried back into the Ducal Palace. “Prince Theodore, that woman is up to no good–not a single word out of her mouth can be trusted. Please pay no mind to her lies.”

“Annoying.” Theodore shot him a cold glance.

Cyan immediately bowed his head and fell silent.

Stella’s carriage raced back in a panic to the Prime Minister’s Estate.

Gritting her teeth in rage, she snapped, “Enter through the back gate.”

The carriage circled around and stopped at the rear entrance.

On the way back to her courtyard, Stella held her stinging cheek, her voice seething with fury. “What spell has that plump witch cast over them? I told them everything plainly, yet they didn’t react at all.”
