CHAPTER 148 PART 2
By the time Marcus made it back downstairs, a crowd had gathered. Elize’s friends had multiplied, and at their center stood a young man Marcus didn’t recognize tall, athletic, with the kind of perfectly styled hair that screamed “trust fund baby.”
“There he is!” Brandon Chen pointed. “That’s the guy who—”
“Marcus Steel.” The new arrival stepped forward, his jaw tight. “I’m Amos Davis. Elize’s friend.”
“Good for you,” Marcus said flatly. “Move.”
“Not until you explain what you did to her.” Amos’s voice shook with barely controlled anger. “She came down looking like she’d been through hell. Hair messed up, clothes wrinkled, crying her eyes out. What did you do?”
Marcus’s patience, already worn thin, snapped completely. “I. Did. Nothing. Your friend got drunk, made bad choices, and is now dealing with consequences. That’s it.”
“Liar!” Amos grabbed Marcus’s collar. “She’s not that kind of girl! You must have-”
Marcus’s hand moved with dragon-enhanced speed. He caught Amos’s wrist, twisted, and the young man found himself face-down on the pavement in less than a second.
“Don’t touch me,” Marcus said quietly.
Amos scrambled up, his face red with humiliation and rage. “You son of a
He swung a wild punch. Marcus sidestepped, caught the fist, and this time didn’t hold back. The sound of
breaking bones echoed across the street as Amos’s hand crumpled in Marcus’s grip.
Amos’s scream was piercing. He collapsed to his knees, cradling his shattered hand, tears streaming down his face.
“Oh my God!” Simeon rushed forward. “Amos! Someone call an ambulance!”
Marcus released him and stepped back. “I warned him.”
“You broke his hand!” Brandon shouted. “Over nothing! You’re insane!!
“He attacked me twice,” Marcus corrected coldly. “The first time I was gentle. The second time, I wasn’t. That’s how the real world works.”
Amos looked up through tears of agony. “My brother… my brother’s going to kill you…’
“Another threat.” Marcus’s expression didn’t change. “How original,”
“Derek Davis runs half the underground in Five-River Province,” Amos gasped between sobs. “When he finds out what you did… you’re dead… you’re fucking dead…”
As if on cue, the roar of engines filled the air. A convoy of black SUVS turned onto the street, their windows tinted, their presence radiating menace. They screeched to a halt, surrounding the area, and doors flew open.
Men in dark suits emerged, at least thirty of them, all carrying themselves with the confident swagger of professional enforcers. And at their center, stepping out of the lead vehicle, was a man in his early thirties with cold eyes and a scar running down his left cheek.
Derek Davis surveyed the scene with the practiced eye of a predator. His gaze locked onto his brother, kneeling and broken on the pavement, then slowly rose to Marcus.

“Well,” Derek’s voice was like gravel. “Looks like I arrived just in time.”
Brandon Chen’s face lit up with vicious satisfaction. “That’s him, Derek! That’s the guy who’s been causing problems!”
Derek ignored him, his full attention on Marcus. “You broke my little brother’s hand.”
“He attacked me,” Marcus said simply.
“I don’t care if he spit in your face.” Derek’s hand moved to the gun holstered at his hip. “Nobody touches my blood and walks away.”
