CHAPTER 84 PART 1

Titan Group Headquarters – Downtown Grayson City – 2:47 PM

Stanislaus Potter strode through Titan Group’s marble lobby like a conquering general, six bodyguards flanking him in perfect formation. At sixty-two, the patriarch of the Potter family cut an imposing figure-tall, broad- shouldered, with silver hair swept back from a face carved from granite and eyes that had witnessed four decades of ruthless business warfare.

Golden Eagle Group controlled half of Five-River Province’s real estate and construction. When Stanislaus Potter spoke, politicians listened, competitors fled, and lesser businessmen trembled.

Today, he’d come to deliver a simple message to Owen Cooper, the so-called “richest man in Grayson City”: withdraw all investments from Hartford Group, or watch them burn when the Potter family crushed them into dust.

But the reception he received was… insulting.

Three senior executives-nervous men in expensive suits-greeted him in the executive conference room. No Owen Cooper. No chairman. Just middle-management lackeys who looked as confused as they were terrified.

“Where is Owen Cooper?” Stanislaus demanded, his voice sharp enough to cut glass.

The lead executive-a balding man named Gregory Walsh-wrung his hands nervously. “Mr. Potter, we apologize for the confusion. Chairman Cooper left strict instructions that he was not to be disturbed today. He’s handling… sensitive matters.”

“Sensitive matters?” Stanislaus’s face darkened. “I traveled three hours from Five-River Province to deliver a courtesy warning, and your chairman can’t spare ten minutes? Do you have any idea how disrespectful that is?”

“Sir, we truly apologize—”

“I don’t want apologies!” Stanislaus slammed his fist on the conference table, the impact making glasses jump. “I want Owen Cooper here NOW, or I want to speak with whoever has the authority to make decisions in his absence!

Gregory exchanged nervous glances with his colleagues. “Well, sir, there’s been talk of a new president being appointed, but we haven’t received official notification-”

“A new president?” Stanislaus’s laugh was harsh and mocking. “You’re telling me Titan Group appointed a president and didn’t even inform its own executives? What kind of amateur operation is Cooper running?”

“We’re just as surprised as you are, Mr. Potter,” another executive admitted weakly.

Stanislaus’s bodyguard captain-a scarred veteran named Viktor-leaned in to whisper, “Boss, this is beneath you. Let’s just leave. We can destroy Hartford Group without Titan’s cooperation.”

“No,” Stanislaus said coldly. “I came here to deliver a warning, and I will deliver it. If this mysterious new president exists, I’ll give them exactly ten minutes to present themselves. After that, I’m walking out-and Titan Group can deal with the consequences of insulting the Potter family.”

The executives scrambled, making frantic phone calls, sending urgent messages, desperately trying to locate whoever was supposed to be the new president.

Nine minutes passed.

Stanislaus was rising from his chair, ready to storm out, when the conference room doors swung open.

Marcus Steel walked in.

Not rushed. Not concerned. Just casually strolling into one of the most important meetings in Grayson City’s business world wearing dark jeans, a simple black shirt, and an utterly relaxed expression.

His dragon aura, though carefully suppressed, still radiated quiet authority that made several executives instinctively step back. There was something in the way he moved-predatory grace that suggested coiled violence barely contained beneath a civilized surface.

Stanislaus Potter froze mid-rise, his eyes widening with recognition and instant, overwhelming fury.

“YOU!” Stanislaus’s roar echoed through the conference room. “You’re the bastard who crippled my son!”

Marcus smiled-a thin, utterly cold expression that held no warmth whatsoever. “Stanislaus Potter. I was wondering when you’d show up. Please, sit down. We have business to discuss.”

“Sit down?! SIT DOWN?!” Stanislaus’s face turned purple with rage. “You broke both of Quamaine’s legs! You humiliated him in front of the entire Hartford Group board! And you dare tell me to sit down?!”

CHAPTER 84 PART 2

“Your son tried to threaten my wife,” Marcus said calmly, walking to the head of the conference table and settling into the chairman’s seat like it was his throne. “A Sacred Saintess. He got off easy with broken legs. I could have

done much worse.”

The executives looked between Marcus and Stanislaus with mounting confusion and terror. Gregory Walsh raised a trembling hand. “Excuse me, Mr. Steel, but-who exactly are you? Why are you—

“Sitting in the chairman’s seat?” Marcus finished. “Because I own it.”

“You-what?” Gregory’s face went white.

Stanislaus’s fury momentarily gave way to contempt. “You pathetic nobody. You married above your station and now you think you can—”

“Mr. Potter,” Marcus interrupted, his voice carrying an edge that made everyone in the room fall silent, “you came here to threaten Owen Cooper into abandoning Hartford Group. You thought your Golden Eagle Group’s power would intimidate Titan Group into compliance. But there’s one problem with your plan.”

“And what’s that?” Stanislaus sneered.

“Owen Cooper doesn’t make decisions for Titan Group.” Marcus leaned back in the chairman’s seat, utterly comfortable. “I do.”

The conference room went deathly silent.

“That’s impossible,” Stanislaus said, but uncertainty crept into his voice. “Owen Cooper is the richest man in Grayson City. Everyone knows-”

“Everyone knows what I allow them to know,” Marcus interrupted. “Owen Cooper is a very capable manager. But he’s always been my employee. Titan Group? It’s mine. Every contract, every investment, every dollar-mine.”

Gregory Walsh looked like he might faint. “But-but that can’t be true! We’ve never-Chairman Cooper never mentioned-”

“Of course he didn’t,” Marcus said. “That’s what discretion means. But since Mr. Potter here has come to threaten my interests, I think it’s time for a little transparency.”

“You’re lying,” Stanislaus said, but his conviction was wavering. “This is some pathetic bluff-”

“Is it?” Marcus pulled out his phone, pressed a single button. “Security Chief Reynolds, please come to

Conference Room A.”

Thirty seconds later, the door opened. A military-looking man in his fifties entered-tall, muscular, with the bearing of someone who’d seen combat and survived.

Chief Michael Reynolds had been head of Titan Group’s security for eight years. He reported directly to Owen Cooper, commanded a force of two hundred trained security personnel, and was known throughout Grayson City’s business community as utterly incorruptible.

He walked past the confused executives, ignored the furious Stanislaus Potter-

And snapped to attention in front of Marcus Steel, his salute sharp and respectful.

“Boss,” Reynolds said. “You called?”

The word hung in the air like a bomb.

Boss.

Not “Mr. Steel.” Not “sir.” Boss.

Gregory Walsh’s legs gave out, and he collapsed into his chair. The other executives stared in shock. Even Stanislaus Potter’s righteous fury faltered as the implication sank in.

“Chief Reynolds,” Marcus said calmly, “Mr. Potter and his bodyguards seem to have forgotten where they are. I’d like you to escort your security team outside. Leave us alone for this conversation.”

“Sir, are you certain? Mr. Potter has six armed-”

“I’m certain,” Marcus interrupted, his dragon aura flickering briefly-barely visible but making Reynolds’s instincts scream danger. “I can handle six bodyguards if necessary.”

Reynolds hesitated, then nodded. “Understood, Boss. We’ll be right outside if you need us.”

He saluted again and left, taking the entire security detail with him.

The executives looked terrified. Stanislaus looked stunned. Viktor, the bodyguard captain, moved protectively closer to his employer.

“This is impossible,” Stanislaus repeated, but his voice had lost its thunder. “You’re nobody. You were a live-in son-in-law who contributed nothing to the Hartford family for three years, How could you possibly-”

“Own the most powerful corporation in Grayson City?” Marcus finished. “Because appearances deceive, Mr. Potter. Your son learned that lesson when he underestimated me. Now you’re learning it too.”

He stood, his suppressed dragon aura making the air feel heavy and oppressive despite its restraint.
