Saintess's Worthless Husband Turned Dragon Commander novel Chapter 85

CHAPTER 85 PART 1

Director Gregory Walsh stared at Marcus Steel sitting in the chairman’s seat, his mind struggling to process what he’d just witnessed. Chief Reynolds-the incorruptible head of security who answered only to Owen Cooper-had just called this young man “Boss.”

But it couldn’t be true. It was impossible.

“This is absurd!” Another director-Thomas Marsh, a portly man in his fifties who’d served on Titan Group’s board for fifteen years-slammed his hand on the table. “I don’t care what Chief Reynolds said. You’re nobody! Some upstart who married into the Hartford family! You can’t just walk in here and—”

“Can’t I?” Marcus’s voice was utterly calm, but something in his tone made Marsh’s protest die in his throat.” Director Marsh, is it? Tell me-how long have you worked for Titan Group?”

“Fifteen years,” Marsh said defensively. “I’ve served this company with distinction while you were probably still in school!”

“Fifteen years of collecting a salary, attending meetings, and making mediocre decisions,” Marcus replied. Congratulations on your dedication to mediocrity.”

Marsh’s face turned purple. “How dare you! I demand proof! Show me documentation! A board resolution! Something that proves Owen Cooper appointed you!”

“Documentation?” Marcus reached into his pocket, pulled out a black card embossed with platinum lettering, and slid it across the table. “Will this suffice?”

Marsh grabbed the card with shaking hands. His eyes widened as he read the inscription:

TITAN GROUP – CEO AUTHORIZATION Marcus Steel Full executive authority Signed: Owen Cooper, Chairman

The card bore Owen Cooper’s personal seal-a security feature that couldn’t be forged, embedded with a chip that verified authenticity when scanned.

“This… this can’t be real…” Marsh stammered, his bluster evaporating like morning fog.

“Scan it if you don’t believe me,” Marcus suggested. “There’s a reader right there on the conference table.” Marsh fumbled with the card reader, his hands trembling. The device beeped, flashed green, and displayed:

VERIFIED – CEO MARCUS STEEL CLEARANCE LEVEL: OMEGA AUTHORITY: ABSOLUTE

The color drained from Marsh’s face completely. He’d just insulted and demanded proof from the man who now controlled his entire career.

“I-I apologize, Mr. Steel,” Marsh gasped, his voice suddenly obsequious. “I didn’t mean to question your authority. I was simply-simply ensuring proper protocol was-”

“You were protecting your position,” Marcus interrupted, his expression utterly indifferent. “I understand self- interest, Director Marsh. But understand this: I don’t tolerate insubordination. The next time you question my authority, you won’t be asking for documentation-you’ll be cleaning out your office.”

“Yes, sir. Of course, sir. It won’t happen again.”

Stanislaus Potter had been watching this exchange with mounting fury and disbelief. Now he stepped forward, his bodyguards closing ranks behind him.

“This is ridiculous!” Stanislaus snarled. “Owen Cooper wouldn’t appoint YOU as CEO! The man who crippled my

son! The nobody who married a Sacred Saintess he doesn’t deserve! I demand to speak with Cooper directly! Summon him NOW!”

Marcus turned those calm, dragon-enhanced eyes toward the Potter patriarch. “Chairman Cooper is occupied with matters that don’t concern you. If you have business with Titan Group, you’ll conduct it through me.”

“I won’t conduct anything with you!” Stanislaus’s voice rose to a shout. “You’re a fraud! A con artist who somehow tricked your way into this position! When Cooper hears about this impersonation-”

“Director Walsh,” Marcus interrupted, ignoring Stanislaus completely. “Call Chairman Cooper. Put him on speaker.”

Gregory Walsh scrambled for his phone, dialing with shaking fingers. The call connected after two rings.

“Walsh?” Owen Cooper’s refined voice filled the conference room. “This better be important. I’m in the middle of negotiations.”

“Sir, I apologize for the interruption,” Walsh said nervously. “But we have Mr. Stanislaus Potter here from Golden Eagle Group, and he’s demanding to speak with you directly. He’s… questioning Mr. Steel’s authority.”

There was a long pause. Then Owen Cooper’s voice came back, cold as winter ice.

“Questioning Marcus Steel’s authority is questioning my authority. Marcus has full CEO powers-everything I can do, he can do. Every order he gives comes from me. Is that clear enough, Mr. Potter?”

Stanislaus looked like he’d been slapped. “Cooper, you can’t seriously expect me to-”

“I expect you to show proper respect to my CEO,” Owen interrupted sharply. “Or leave Titan Group headquarters immediately. Your choice.”

The line went dead.

The conference room fell into stunned silence. Even Stanislaus’s bodyguards looked uncomfortable, sensing their employer had just been publicly humiliated by the very man he’d come to intimidate.

Marcus leaned back in the chairman’s seat, utterly relaxed. “Now that we’ve established my credentials, let’s discuss why you’re really here, Mr. Potter. You came to threaten Owen Cooper into abandoning Hartford Group. You thought your Golden Eagle Group’s power would force Titan Group into compliance.”

“It should!” Stanislaus snapped, rallying his fury. “Hartford Group is a minor player! Your so-called wife is acting chairman, but she has no experience, no connections, no real power! When Golden Eagle Group crushes them- and we will-any company supporting them will burn alongside them!”

“Is that a threat?” Marcus’s voice remained perfectly calm.

CHAPTER 85 PART 2

“It’s a promise!” Stanislaus stepped forward aggressively. “I’m giving you one chance, Steel. One chance to distance Titan Group from Hartford Group before we obliterate them. After that, you’ll be caught in the crossfire.”

Marcus stood slowly, his dragon aura flickering just beneath the surface-invisible to normal eyes but making the air feel heavy and oppressive.

“Let me be equally clear, Mr. Potter,” Marcus said quietly. “Hartford Group is under Titan Group’s full protection. My wife-Sacred Saintess Quinn Hartford-is its acting chairman. Any attack on Hartford Group will be met with Titan Group’s complete retaliation.”

The directors gasped. Gregory Walsh looked like he might have a heart attack. Thomas Marsh’s mouth fell open in shock.

“You’re declaring war on Golden Eagle Group?” Walsh squeaked. “That’s-that’s insane! They control half of Five -River Province! They could destroy us!”

“They could try,” Marcus corrected. “And fail. Because Titan Group doesn’t back down from bullies.”

“This is suicide!” Marsh protested. “Our shareholders will never-”

“Your shareholders will do what I tell them,” Marcus interrupted, his dragon eyes glowing faintly. “Because I control this company. And I will use every resource at my disposal to protect my wife and her company.”

He turned back to Stanislaus, his expression carved from stone.

“My wife is a Sacred Saintess,” Marcus continued, his voice carrying ancient authority. “Her bloodline is divine. Her company is under my protection. Challenge that at your peril, Mr. Potter”

Stanislaus stared at Marcus for a long moment, seeing something in those eyes that made his instincts scream danger. His son had underestimated this man and ended up with broken legs. The Brand family had underestimated him and been wiped out overnight.

But the Potter family had too much invested, too much pride, too much power to back down now.

“Fine,” Stanislaus said coldly. “You want war? You’ve got it. Within one month, Hartford Group will be bankrupt. Within two months, Titan Group will be bleeding contracts and investors. And within three months, your precious Sacred Saintess will be begging me for mercy.”

He turned toward the door, his bodyguards following. “This was your last chance to avoid disaster, Steel. Remember that when your empire collapses around you.”

“Mr. Potter,” Marcus called out, stopping the older man at the doorway. “When you fail-and you will fail- remember that I gave you the chance to walk away. What happens next is on you.

Stanislaus didn’t respond. He stormed out, his rage practically radiating off him in waves.

The moment the door closed, the directors erupted in panicked voices.

“We can’t fight Golden Eagle Group!”

“This will destroy our stock price!”

“Our investors will abandon us!”

Marcus raised a hand, and silence fell immediately. The unconscious authority in that simple gesture was unmistakable.
