Chapter 114

Maxwell’s POV

Lucian’s face hardened, and he struck them again, the whip cracking against flesh, their cries echoing in the air.

You mean to tell me that you would rather defy your Alpha’s orders than cross a pair of corrupt Elders?I asked, letting my voice carry the bitterness, the betrayal I felt. They sobbed, trembling before us, but I had no sympathy to give. They had been trusted with Scarlett’s safety, and they had thrown her to the wolves.

I took a step back, trying to rein in the anger threatening to consume me, but the pain in my chest only grew stronger. Scarlett, wherever you are, know this: I would tear down every law, defy every Elder, if it meant bringing you home.

You starved my wife! Our wife! Your Luna!My voice cracked with anger and disbelief as I let the word wife leave my lips for the

first time. The word felt strange yet sacred because, conventional or not, she was ours, bound to us as deeply as the pack itself. Bu

these peopleour own peoplehad betrayed her because an Elder commanded it. How dare you!I roared, the weight of my fury

bearing down on them.

They fell to their knees, faces etched with panic, begging for forgiveness. Please, Alpha, forgive us.

Then bring my Scarlett back to me, and maybe I’ll consider it.My voice was thick with tears I couldn’t hold back. Bring her back, and I’ll let it go.But we all knew that was impossible. No amount of begging or penance would undo the damage they’d done.

Turning to the crowd, I let the truth burn into them. Yes, she tried to escape. Yes, her attempt cost lives. But if anyone deserves blame, it’s the ones who drove her to it.I pointed to the two shackled workers, the ones who had seen her pain and turned away. They are the reason she felt she had no choice but to flee. They pushed her to it.

Clay stepped forward, his face a mask of controlled rage as he took the whip from Lucian, Without hesitation, he laid into them, one stroke after another until they slumped, unconscious, their bodies bruised and bleeding. Each crack of the whip reverberated through the crowd, and they watched, stunned, as Clay let his anger manifest in every strike.

Once he was done, he turned to the guards, his voice cold and hard. Lock them in a cell, Don’t feed them. Make sure they do manual labour without food, and let’s see how long they last. If they felt that was fair treatment for our Luna, they should take it

proudly.

I knew Clay’s words were directed more at the Elders than at the helpless figures now being dragged away. He’d endured their tyranny just as we all had, but thisthis betrayal cut too deep.

Just as I turned to Bianca, Lucian stepped forward, his expression steeled, his focus locked on her.

Who set up Scarlett?he demanded, his voice as sharp and cold as a blade.

“Alphs, you know me Bianca pleaded, her voice trembling. You know my family. We’ve served yours for generations. I would never harm you,She shook her head, desperate, but Lucian didn’t even flinch. In one swift, brutal motion, he brought the whip down on her daughter The child screamed, and a hushy fell over the crowd. What Lucian was doing was against every inle, every law. But he

didn’t stop. He was beyond reason, driven by a need for truth and a rage as fierce as my own.

Bianca broke, her facade of loyalty and innocence shattering as she sobbed, I’ll confess! Her words sent a ripple through the

crowd, shocked whispers echoing all around. The people, who had believed her lies, who had accepted her story without question,

now stared at her with newfound horror and disbelief. Everything they thought they knew was unraveling before their eyes.

In that moment, as Bianca’s guilt bared itself for all to see, I felt the weight of Scarlett’s absence more deeply than ever. These peoplemy own peoplehad betrayed her, stripped her of dignity, and taken away everything she’d been. And now, with nothing left to lose, we would bring the truth to light, no matter what it cost us.

I assume it was Thomas and the other elders who set her up.
