Chapter 115
“Speak!” Lucian’s voice was harsher than I’d ever heard it, fueled by an anger that went beyond betrayal. Despite his past/with Bianca and his mistrust of Scarlett’s family, he had to confront the twisted truth laid out before us.
Bianca trembled under his glare, her eyes darting around, but there was no escape. Finally, she broke, her words tumbling out in desperate confession.
“It was Lady Stasia and Gregory Olsen. They planned it. Stasia noticed Gregory’s interest in the Luna and saw an opportunity. She told Gregory that Scarlett was a Vladislav, that if he woke up beside her, the Alphas would have no choice but to send her away with him.” Bianca’s voice shook, but there was no pity left for her.
“Stasia and I knew that wasn’t true, but he didn’t. So we manipulated him, and plotted against Scarlett. She was innocent. The
stranger never slept with her. I locked the door of your apartment to ensure she would stay in her old room, and after she went in I
returned and unlocked it.”
Clay’s face turned ashen with fury. “And the witnesses?” he demanded, his tone deadly.
“All paid by Gregory to lie,” Bianca confessed, the weight of her guilt hanging in the air. Lucian’s growl was deep and filled with a simmering rage, but before he could do anything more, the crowd reacted. Stones flew from their hands, each one a symbol of the anger they felt for being so thoroughly deceived.
“Find Stasia and every witness who lied,” Lucian ordered, his voice echoing with a newfound authority. “Lock them up, feed them once a day–no more.” His words were as cold and unyielding as ice, but even as we doled out this punishment, it didn’t bring us the peace we craved. Instead, it only deepened the ache in our hearts, the bitter regret for the damage we had allowed to happen.
“What have we done?” Lucian murmured, his voice breaking. “She was telling the truthy all along.”
I clenched my fists, the reality sinking in painfully. I had never doubted Scarlett’s innocence, not in my heart. I knew her, knew her spirit, but the situation had been so tangled, so poisoned by lies, that we felt trapped, our hands tied by protocol and the weight of the Elders‘ judgment. If it had been left to us, we would have brushed aside the rumors trusted our instincts. But the Elders were involved, and from there, it spiralled beyond our control.
If only Bianca had spoken up, if only she had spared Scarlett this agony. We’d spent every waking moment chasing Gregory, believing him to be the sole architect of this betrayal, never knowing that the true traitor was right here, watching us scramble in vain. Bianca had known the truth all along, and out of petty hatred, she had allowed Scarlett’s name to be dragged through the
mud.
