Scarlett’s POV

Could it really be true? The three of them, here, in the mansion? I stared at Martha, disbelief tightening my chest.

“They forced you to come here?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper, but Martha shook her head gently.

“No, Scarlett. They didn’t force me. They begged me, pleaded with me to come, to ask for your forgiveness and bring you home. I chose to speak with yost alone first while they meet with Keith. They’re desperate, Scarlett,” she explained. Her words hit me hard, and suddenly, I understood why Keith had been vo tense, why he hadn’t wanted me to leave the room. He knew the effect they had on me and didn’t trust that I could keep myself steady with them to close

But the memories of the pain, the rejection, and the betrayal washed over me like a cold wave. I shook my head, bracing myself against it all.

“I can’t go back, Martha. I’m sorry, but I won’t. I won’t return to that place-a place where I was treated like dirt, where no one cared about me or respected me. I was nothing more than a burden there. My own father was despised, and people constantly plotted against me. And my mates… they were supposed to be my refuge, but instead, they were the source of my deepest pain. I can’t go back to that hell, Martha.”

I stood, the resolve in my heart hardening. If they were here, then I’d face them. I’d look each of them in the eye and fell them they’d wasted their time coming. I wasn’t their object of suffering anymore. They had no power over me now.

“Please, Scarlett,” Martha’s voice cracked, and then she fell to her knees, her hands trembling as she clasped them in front of her.

“The East is at war with us, and the Alphas… they’re too unfocused to fight. They’re pouring all their strength into searching for you, into trying to bring you back. They’re lost, Scarlett. I know I’m asking too much, but please… I watched them grow up. I was there when they lost their parents in the war with the East, when they had to learn to survive on their own. They had no guidance, no support. The elders turned their backs on them. They’re still learning what it means to care, to love… and they’re learning all this for the first time because of you. Yes, they made mistakes-terrible ones-but they’ve learned. They’re broken, Scarlett, and they need you to give them a second chance.”

Her tears fell freely, and every drop felt like it was breaking something inside me, making me crumble. “If you stay away, there’ll be nothing left of the

North. They can’t keep fighting without you. I regret sending you to the West every single day. Please, Scarlett, I beg you.”

I reached out and took her hands, gently helping her to stand. My heart ached for her pain, for the pain of the ones I had loved and had been hurt by. I didn’t know what was right anymore. But seeing Martha’s despair, her genuine love for them, something shifted in me.

Taking a deep breath, I decided I’d go to them. I wouldn’t go to stay, but I would face them, tell them what they needed to hear. They needed to understand that their chance had come and gone.

Morgan told me Keith was in his office with them, so I turned and headed there, ready to confront my past, my mates, and the ties I thought I’d left behind

As I approached Keith’s office, a strange sense of caution washed over me. I wasn’t sure why, but I decided to mask my scent with a spell, allowing myself to slip closer undetected. Part of me didn’t want to be seen, didn’t want them to know I was there. This way, I could listen without them holding back, without them knowing I was listening.

What if they were here to accuse me, to throw my mistakes back in my face? I knew Lucian wouldn’t hesitate to twist things if it meant forcing Kerth’s hand Steeling myself, I moved quietly to the door and listened.

“I can’t give her to you,” I heard Keith’s voice, firm and unwavering. “She came here on her own, and if you’d treated her right, she wouldn’t have run in the first place. When she arrived, she was broken, starving. Who does that to their mate?” There was a heavy pause, and I felt a shiver of both gratitude and surprise at Keith’s words. He was protecting me, standing up for me in ways no one had before.
