Chapter 152

“Please, Keith,” Clay’s voice followed soft and hollow. “I’m begging you… Scarlett isn’t your mate, and this is wrong. You’ve already hard a mate you we had your time with love. Don’t take this from ds. She’s our mate, and she belongs with us. Please, this… this is just greed.” His voice faltered, and I could hear the desperation beneath his words. My heart tightened, hearing the quiet, vulnerable side of Clay I had rarely seen.

But Keith didn’t relent.

“Greed?” he said, his tone almost scornful. “I never left her tied to a pole, hoping she’d freeze to death. I didn’t lock her in a dark cell, starve her, ot work her to exhaustion. I never betrayed her trust or put her enemies before her. All of that-that was on you three. Don’t you think you’ve done enough damage? Besides, I know about the war in the East. Shouldn’t you be worrying about defending your territories instead of chasing after a mate who doesn’t men want to return?”

I leaned closer, hardly able to believe my own ears. Keith’s words cut through the air, fierce and unyielding, filled with a protective rage that I had never felt anyone direct toward me. Yet, hearing him list the things I’d endured, I felt the buried pain flare up, raw and vivid.

There was a long silence, thick with the weight of regret and unspoken words.

Then, Lucian spoke, his voice strained and hoarse. “I don’t care about my title or the North, Keith. None of it matters anymore. If it’s my share of the North you want, take it. I’ll give it all up if it means Scarlett will return. Nothing in this world has any meaning without her.” His words broke, and I could tell he was struggling, each word coming from a place of deep agony.

“I… I’ll humble myself before you, publicly, to bring her back. Please… just give us back our mate,” he whispered, his voice cracking, and I could hear the faint sound of tears.

Hearing Lucian cry, hearing the depths of his remorse and desperation, struck something fragile within me. For a moment, my anger wavered, and the old, lingering connection I’d felt for them flickered. They had hurt me-deeply, undeniably-but I had never imagined them breaking like this, pleading and shedding tears over me.

I felt torn between the intense bitterness that had become my shield and the love that had never fully died. I knew I had to choose, to decide if these

broken men who had caused me so much pain could ever truly earn my forgiveness.

Their words hit me like a slow, searing burn. Keith’s anger was thick in the air, his voice low but brimming with a possessive rage that I’d never sensed from him before. The words cut deep, but it wasn’t until I heard the pain-laden accusations that I truly understood the weight of what was happening.

“Men that cry are like little boys,” Keith sneered, his tone laced with contempt. “Did you get her revenge? You brought a stranger into your home, let him violate her trust, and then sent him on his merry way as if it were nothing. His name isn’t Gregory-it’s Geoffrey, and unlike you, I’ve locked him up. He’s rotting in a cell, waiting for Scarlett’s judgment. You don’t deserve her, and deep down, you know it. The best thing you can dofis leave. Go back to Garland. Maybe he’ll spare your lives if you make him the same pitiful offer you just made me.”

I felt the weight of Keith’s magic pressing into the room, heavy and stifling, but I wrapped myself in my own magic, keeping my scent hidden. I could feel his fear beneath the anger, the tension of a man who had too much to lose. He was afraid I would choose them, that I’d walk away from him and return to

the North.

“She isn’t yours, Keith,” Maxwell’s voice broke through, pleading and raw. “You’re manipulating her, using magic to keep her close. It’s wicked, and you kn it. You’ve already had your mate. You’ve had your chance at love. What happened to you was cruel, but that doesn’t make it right to steal our mate with magic.”

Keith’s laugh rang out, dark and mocking. “Steal her?” he scoffed. “Who said I stole her?”

“Then let us see her,” Maxwell replied, his voice quivering. “Without your magic, without your interference. Let us plead with her, face to face. She has the

Sight decide where she belongs.”

Keith’s voice dropped to a deadly calm. “And if I refuse? I doubt you’d want to risk a war with me, too?

I could feel the tension building, thick and volatile, but I’d heard enough. I took a deep breath, gathering my strength, and pushed open the diner to foster office. Silence washed over the room as they turned to face me, each expression a mirror of different emotions

Keith’s face was unreadable, but I could sense his unease, a flash of irritation at my unexpected appearance. Yet it was my mates tud fe y atentnog and my heart clenched painfully as I took in their state. Lucian, Chy, and Maxwell-once so proud, so unbreakable now looked work. thair are red with grief, regret, and something that looked too much like despair.
