Chapter 208

He studied me for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then he sighed again, feaning back slightly. “It’s okay if you don’t want to tell me what happened.”

he said gently. “I understand your aged to protect whoever helped you. I’m just grateful to them for sing your life.”

I hesitated, his words hitting closer than I’d expected. He knew I wasn’t being fully honest.

“How do you know I’m lying?” I asked, my tone cautious.

Clay’s gaze met mine, his pale blue eyes steady and calm. “Because your scent didn’t lead to the settlement,” he said simply. “You ran straight from the pole to the main road and hitched a ride. Either you got to the road naked, or someone helped you-untied you, gave you clothes, food, money, and showed you which way to go. For someone who’s never left the South before, finding your way West wasn’t a coincidence. You had help

His words left no room for argument. He was too sharp to deceive, and I realized there was no point in trying to twist the truth any further. He wasn’t accusing me–he was just stating what he already knew.

“Can I keep this one?” I asked, my voice quieter now, almost pleading.

He nodded without hesitation. “I won’t push it, Scarlett,” he said gently. “And neither will Maxwell or Lucian. We’re just grateful to have you back.”

He stood then, offering me a hand. “Come on, let’s shower and start the day. I might have to join Lucian and Maxwell later-hope you don’t mind?”

I shook my head, taking his hand and letting him pull me up. “I don’t mind,” I said softly.

As we moved toward the bathroom, Clay glanced back at me. “Your seer is on her way,” he said. “Elsa told us this morning that she’ll be here by evening.”

The mention of Alison sent a wave of nervous energy through me, knots forming in my stomach. I didn’t know why, but the thought of seeing her-of hearing what she had to say about my mother-filled me with both anticipation and dread.

Clay must have sensed my unease because he turned to me, his expression/reassuring. “Relax, Scarlett. Whatever the case, you have the three of us,” he said,

his tone steady and comforting.

I nodded, trying to heed his advice and calm the storm inside me. “I’ll try,” I murmured, more to myself than to him.

Whatever Alison had to share, I would face it head-on. I had survived so much already, and now, with Clay, Maxwell, and Lucian by my side, I knew I wasn’t

alone.

Clay led me into the bathroom with that teasing glint in his eye. “I hope you don’t mind me joining you,” he said, his voice playful.

I laughed, shaking my head as I headed to the sink to brush iny teeth. He had already brushed his, of course, but I could feel his gaze on me as I moved. When I glanced over, I caught him stripping and stepping into the shower. The glass door left little to the imagination, and my cheeks flushed involuntarily. Quickly, I focused on finishing up at the sink, ignoring the heat creeping up my neck.

Once I was done, I undressed and stepped into the shower, the warm water enveloping me as I joined him.

Clay didn’t notice me at first, lost in the steady stream of water cascading over him, his muscles glistening under the spray. Without a word, I wrapped my arms around him from behind, resting my head against his back, my hands pressing gently against his chest.

He stilled for a moment, then placed his hand over mine, the touch sending a jolt of electricity through me. The connection between us sparked alive, palpable and consuming.

Fly thened to face me, his han dripping, his blue eyes glowing faintly wasn’t expecting you to join me,” he said, his tone low and husky.

I smirked, letting my actions answer for me as I dropped to my knees. His sharp intake of breath was audible, and when I touched him, he groaned, his hand finding its way into my hair. As I for him to my mouth, he sighed in relief, his hips beginning to move in rhythm with my motions.

“Turk, Scarlett,” he groaned, his voice rough with pleasure “I missed this.”

The water cascaded over us, heightening the intimacy of the moment, the heat mixing with the steamy air around us. I continued to tend to him, his breath coming faster, his grip on my hair tightening slightly. His eyes burhed brighter, glowing with his earth magic as he fought to hold himself back.

“I want to come inside you,” he said suddenly, his voice raw and filled with need. He lifted me effortlessly, pressing my back against the cool, tiled wall.

Clay drove himself into me, and I gasped, clinging to his shoulders as he filled me completely. His movements were deliberate yet fervent, each thrust sending waves of pleasure through me. The sparks between us intensified, our auras mingling and melding together in a fiery dance that only heightened

the sensations.

The water, the magic, the connection-it was overwhelming in the most beautiful way. I lost myself in hira, in the moment, as the bond between us grew stronger with every touch, every breath, every movement.

When we finally reached our peak, it was like an explosion of energy between us, raw and electrifying. We held onto each other, our breaths mingling, the shower’s steady spray the only sound apart from our panting.

Clay pressed his forehead to mine, his magic forest green eyes now softened and warm. “You make every morning beautiful,” he murmured, a small smile

playing on his lips.

I laughed softly, brushing a stray lock of wet hair from his face. “It’s mutual.”

We lingered in the shower a little longer, enjoying the intimacy and the comfort of each other’s presence before finally stepping out to start the day. It was, indeed, a beautiful morning.

Scarlett’s POV

After the shower, Clay and I sat down for breakfast. The warm, homely atmosphere was comforting, but soon, he had to leave to join Maxwell and Lucian The weight of responsibility was heavy on all of them, and I could sense there was a lot of work to be done.

Left alone. I decided to rest while waiting for Alisson’s arrival. I curled up on the couch in the living room, my thoughts drifting back to Elsa’s revelations. Her words echoed in my mind, especially the warning about the dark rider. I knew it wouldn’t be right to keep what I’d learned from Keith. He might have the magic to glimpse the future, but he still needed to be warned.

The thought of calling him after so much time felt strange-awkward even-but it was a bridge I needed to cross. In another life, things could have been different between us. Keith had been one of the best parts of my journey, and nothing could take that away.

Taking a deep breath, I pulled out my phone and dialed his number. This time, I was determined to follow through. The line rang a few times before he answered, his voice calm and familiar. Deep and reassuring, it sent a wave of bittersweet nostalgia through me.

“Scarlett,” he said, and in that moment, I realized just how much I had missed him.

“Keith,” I whispered, barely managing to say his name.
