I paused, the words catching in my Mugat “kot I dont’ have siblings, Keith. None that I know of. The southern seer who served my father is on her way to help me. But this thing. Keith dangerous. I saw it in a vision. It… it killed everyone. I watched you all die. My voice broke, and the tears came again as the memory of the vision resurfaced, viend and haunting
There was a brief silence on the line before Keith finally spoke, his voice lower, more thoughtful.
*) sex the dark rider once, Scarlett,” he said, his words measured. “And ʼn looks like you. At the time, I thought it was you a possible future, one you might fall into. But hearing you now, this explanation makes more sense. I couldn’t believe you would ever become that person. My seer couldn’t make much of it back then, but now I’ll start preparing myself. Just in case.”
I exhaled, the weight of his confession pressing on me. “We have to face this thing together, Keith,” I said firmly, “We can’t do it alone. Individually, we
won’t stand a chance”
He sighed softly, the sound carrying both agreement and resignation, “And Garland?” he asked after a pause.
“In our cell as we speak,” I replied, and Keith chuckled.
“My men told me what you did,” he said, laughter edging his voice. “You actually asked him how he liked his steak, Scarlett. That was mean.”
“Well, he asked for it,” I said lightly, though the memory of the fight flickered in my mind.
Keith laughed again, but his tone shifted slightly, becoming more serious.
“I heard it was Lucian’s ex who helped Garland penetrate the North,” he said. “I guess she felt hurt enough by his rejection to do something so drastic. Women can be… vindictive. I hope Lucian handles this wisely and doesn’t let it slip.”
I sighed. “I doubt she’ll survive if he gets his hands on her,” I said honestly. /For now, I’m just watching to see how he handles it.”
Keith made a sound of agreement. “Your mates won’t betray you again, Scarlett. They looked horrible when they came begging. For three powerful Valkin alphas to be reduced to that-it says a lot. You have more power over them than you realise. Power they’re only just beginning to understand.”
I chuckled softly at his observation, though his words carried a truth I couldn’t ignore.
“Please, Keith,” I said, my tone softening. “Let’s face this thing together. I couldn’t bear it if anything happened to you.”
For a moment, he didn’t respond, and the silence felt heavy, Finally, he spoke, his voice warm but serious. “It’s good to know you care about me, Scarlett. I promise I won’t let anything bad happen to me. And I’ll come North. We’ll plan this thing together. Will that make you happy?”
A smile spread across my face, even though he couldn’t see it. “Yes, Keith. It’ll make me happy.”
He chuckled softly. “I’ll let you know when I’m coming. Think they’ll receive me in the North?” he joked, his tone lighter now.
“With open arms, Keith. Arms wide open, I promise,” I said, laughing along with him.
We said our goodbyes and hung up.
As I set the phone down, a feeling of lightness washed over me. The conversation had lifted a weight I hadn’t realized I was carrying. Keith’s calm reassurance and willingness to stand together in the fight ahead eased some of my fears.

Lucian’s POV
Garland sat before us, visibly scarred and far from the arrogant man who had marched into our territory seeing chaos. The burns from Scarlett’s attack had seared his skin so deeply that even his wolf genes couldn’t fully heal him. His once pristine appearance was marred, likely permanently. It was a testament to the ferocity of Scarlett’s power a reminder of why she wasn’t someone to be underestimated. But whose fault was this, really?
Garland had brought it on himself, walking into our territory, seeking truble, and, worse, underestimating Scarlett. He had treated her as a weak and
helpless Luna. That mistake had cost him dearly.
What infuriated me even more was the thought that Stasia, had been feeding him information. The betrayal burned hotter than Garland’s injuries, and I resolved to make her pay for it. She’d not only endangered Scarlett but all of us, and for that, her actions couldn’t go unanswered.
Clay arrived just as the guards prepared to bring Garland in. He walked in with a smug look, his fcent heavily intertwined with Scarlett’s. I stiffened, suppressing a growl. Of course, he’d spent the morning with her. Maybe I should have stayed behind instead of leaving to handle fre morning duties with Maxwell. Scarlett always seemed to have a soft spot for him-perhaps because he’d been the least hostile toward her when she arrived.
While I had fumbled with my own mistakes, Clay had made sure she was warm, fed, and protected. He’d recognized what she needed long before I had. I couldn’t fault him for that, but it stung nonetheless. Scarlett had forgiven me for my failures, but I hadn’t forgiven myself. I doubted I ever would.
“What did I miss?” Clay asked, pulling up a chair and leaning back casually as the guards went to fetch Garland.
“Nothing,” Maxwell replied, his voice edged with impatience. “We’re just about to question the douchebag. I still can’t believe the asshole thought he could take both the North and the South. Maybe he’s been troubling the South for longer than we realised. That might be why David asked for troops. You sure we
won’t help regardless?” Maxwell’s sharp eyes turned to me.
