Chapter 239

** arrived at the clearing. I couldn’t help but gasp softly. Even in the starkness of winter, it was stunning. The trees stood bare. thest skeletal branches casting delicate shadows on the snow-covered ground. In the middle of it all was the lake, a smooth, frozen expanse that glinted faintly in the waning light:

I imagined what it would be like to swim in the lake if it weren’t frozen solid, though the idea of submerging myself in water in this icy region was laughable. Swimming in the North was practically a death wish. The thought made me chuckle as Maxwell began setting up the picnic spot.

“What do you think of the place?” he asked, his voice breaking through my thoughts.

“It’s beautiful,” I said honestly, a smile tugging at my lips. The cold didn’t dull the magic of the scenery.

“Great,” he replied with a grin, already unbuttoning his coat. “A little run will warm us up before we eat.” He began to undress, his

movements purposeful but unhurried.

My stomach fluttered with both excitement and nerves. Shifting wasn’t something I did often-certainly not fully. The idea of doing so now felt daunting. “Come on, I’ll take over,” Midnight said eagerly, her voice echoing in my mind. She was thrilled at the opportunity to

run, and her enthusiasm helped steady me.

Following Maxwell’s lead, I began to undress, leaving my clothes folded neatly in the snow. My heart raced as I prepared for the shift. I’d only partially shifted before, and this would be my first time experiencing the full transformation. The sensation was strange, a mix of discomfort and exhilaration as my body contorted and reshaped itself. Pain flared briefly, but I gritted my teeth and stayed silent.

“It’ll get easier with time,” Midnight reassured me as she took control, her confidence shining through.

When the shift was complete, I stood on all fours, feeling the crunch of snow beneath my paws.

My fur was a blend of soft grey and white, gleaming faintly in the moonlight. I wasn’t as large as Neo, but I was far from small-larger than most regular werewolves, for sure. Neo let out a low howl, a sound of reverence and greeting, before trotting over to nuzzle me with

his nose.

Midnight responded in kind, the connection between them immediate and heartfelt.

“Hello, Midnight,” Neo said warmly, his voice resonating through the link. Midnight howled in excitement, her joy contagious. For the first time, our wolves weren’t just speaking through a mind link-they were face-to-face, and it was surreal.

Everything felt new to me. The texture of the snow under our paws, the crisp, cold air filling my lungs, the vibrant smells of the forest— was acutely aware of it all. My senses were heightened in ways I’d never experienced before, and it was breathtaking.

“Come on,” Neo said, and without warning, he took off into the woods. Midnight didn’t hesitate, bounding after him with a playful grow

Chapter 239

The icy moist wind whipped past us as we raced through the trees, the sensation exhilarating. I bowled a tox times, unite to contain my delight, and New answered with howls of his own. It felt like pure freedom, unbridled and infinite

As we moved through the frost covered landscape, I could feel the pulse of my magic mingling with the natural world around me. The seemed to hum with life, and for the first time in a long while, I fell truly at peace.

We finally slowed when we reached a secluded spot deep in the woods. Neo paused, his large frame standing protectively close to Midnight. She nuzzled him affectionately, their connection silent but palpable. For a moment, we just stood there, taking in the stillness of the forest. It was a moment of serenity I hadn’t realized I needed.

Eventually, we turned back toward the clearing where Maxwell had set up the picnic. The run had been more than just a physical release-

it was a taste of freedom, something I hadn’t known I was missing. The feeling was incredible, and I knew it would stay with me long

after the snow melted.

As we reached the frozen lake, we shifted back to our human forms and wrapped ourselves in a thick blanket Maxwell had brought. Sitting together on the mat he’d laid out, the cold seemed less biting with him close by. His warmth and the steady beat of his heart were all I

needed to feel grounded.

“How was it?” Maxwell asked, his voice playful as he nipped at my ear. His teasing made me laugh softly.

“It felt like freedom,” I confessed, my voice carrying the awe of the experience. He pulled me closer, his arm strong and comforting

around me.
