Chapter 62

Lucian’s POV

So, how may I help you?Elsa asked, her eyes warm but shadowed with curiosity and concern. Her smile was gentle, but the air around us felt thick, as though the unlit fireplace had brought more than Just a chill to the room.

I took a steadying breath. There have been three recent attacks, began, feeling the weight of each word. We don’t know who’s behind them or why. Should we be worried, or will this trouble pass?

Elsa’s smile faded as she sighed, her gaze dropping to the bowl on the table. I can’t promise the spirits will reveal everything, but let’s ask them, she said softly. Please, wash your hands in the bowl, one at a time, so I can seek answers.

One by one, we each placed our hands in the cool water of the bowl, feeling a strange prickling sensation as we did so. When we’d finished, Elsa leaned over the bowl, her gaze sharpening, and I felt a shiver as a cold breeze drifted through the room. The bowl began to glow faintly, as if it held a hidden fire, and the air felt charged, almost alive.

Suddenly, Elsa’s voice rose, distant yet firm, each word weighted with grim intent. A rising threat. A great betrayal. Emptiness, regret, turmoil, war, penance, tears, and hardship. Separation, longing, danger. Hatred, pain, karma, plight, forgotten.

Her words hung heavy in the air, and I felt a chill that went deeper than the cold air in the room. Every word she spoke sounded like a stone dropped into dark waters, sending ripples of dread through us. There was no comfort, no light, only shadows and sorrow.

Elsa, her face strained, disturbed the water’s surface with her hand. The ripples settled, and she stared into the bowl again, calling forth the same haunting

words as before. I clenched my hands, trying to ignore the growing sense of dread curling inside me. She sat back in her chair, her face pale and eyes deeply

troubled.

The future isn’t going to be gentle, she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. There’s one piece of advice I can give you: stay close. Don’t cut

yourselves off from each other, no matter what trials you face. Even when it’s painful, even when everything in you wants to turn awaystay together. You’ll

need each other, now more than ever.

Her gaze grew distant, her voice taking on a mournful tone. There’s a threat, one that’s been held back for so long. But whatever kept it restrained is gone now. The darkness is free to rise, and it’s hungryit will consume anything, anyone, in its path.

I struggled to understand her meaning, the weight of her warning pressing down like an unseen hand. What was this darkness? What had changed to unleash it? There were so many questions, and yet the answers felt just out of reach, shadowed by Elsa’s chilling words. And as I looked arosind at my friends, I knew we all felt itthe unease, the quiet fear. Whatever was coming, we would face it together, holding tight, even as the shadows closed in.

Maxwell’s voice trembled slightly as he spoke. What do you mean, Elsa? His question was sharp, but underneath, I could sense his worry, his fear. We had come here for guidance, for some clarity, and instead, Elsa’s words had stirred up a storm within us.

She looked at him, her expression softening as if she understood the weight of her prophecy. War, Maxwell. A war like none before. A great betrayal. One region will rise, seeking to enslave the others, to conquer everything and everyone.

Her gaze fell to the shimmering water in the bowl, and I felt a chill down my spine. Who would do this? Who would dare such a thing?

Nikolay is dead,I said, trying to convince myself as much as her. It felt absurd, impossible even, that someone else could carry such darkness.

Elsa’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smile. There is still a threat waiting to rise. It will emerge from the South, from a place none of you expect. It will come from the shadows, relentless, leaving only death and destruction in its wake. Her eyes darkened, and I felt my heart sink. Had we been deceived all along? Did Scarlett have a brother or some unknown kin who would threaten us all?

Chapter 62-

There is no Alpha,Elay interjected, his tone resolute but uneasy. Nikolay had only one childour mate, our fated Scarlett. And sheshe is wolfless.

Elsa let out a long, tired sigh. That may be true, Clay, but I am only the messenger. I have told you what the spirits have shown me. These things will come to pass. Be cautious, all of you. The danger is real.

I felt my throat tighten, questions swirling, à desperation building. If war was inevitable, if this darkness would rise no matter what, was there any hope for

us?

Elsa,I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, if we claim our mate, if we gain the Valkin’s magic through her, will we stand a chance?

She turned her gaze back to the water, her eyes lost in its depths before meeting mine with a sombre expression. You won’t gain the magic of the Valkin, she said, her voice final and unyielding.

My heart thudded, a painful echo of disappointment. What do you mean?I managed, my words laced with shock and disbelief.

Your mate has no wolf, not yet,Elsa replied, her voice a quiet lament. Until her wolf awakens, she is as vulnerable as any chosen mate. She cannot yet offer you the Valkin’s magic. For now, her blood holds no power.

I looked over at Maxwell and Clay, their faces mirroring the same shock and disbelief I felt coursing through my veins. Everything we had believed, everything we had hoped for, suddenly felt fragile, hanging by a thread.

Scarlett was our mate, our fated one, but without her wolf, without her magic, we were no closer to strength or protection.

A deep silence fell over us, heavy and ominous. The weight of Elsa’s words settled like a dark cloud, chilling me to the core. I had come here hoping for

answers, for some assurance that we could face what lay ahead. But instead, we were left with a prophecy of war, betrayal, and the painful reminder of how

vulnerable we truly were.

Will she ever gain her wolf?I asked, feeling the desperation in my own voice. The thought of Scarlett remaining wolfless of her being vulnerable,

defenselesswas something I couldn’t bear.
