Scarlett

Chapter 63

Lucian’s POV

Elsa’s eyes met mine, contemplative, as though she was sifting through memories or secrets only she could understand. What is her name?she asked finally.

Scarlett Vladislav,Clay responded, his voice steady but tense. Elsa looked at us, a flicker of something unreadable in her gaze.

Have you mated with her?she asked, her tone as direct as ever. We each shook our heads, feeling the weight of the question settle uncomfortably around

  1. us.

Any form of intimacy that would bind you to her, something that could tighten a connection?she continued, her eyes sharp. I felt the silent admission pass between us, each of us aware of the unspoken truth.

Maxwell was the first. He’d kissed her that night at dinner, unable to resist the pull between them. Clay, too, had felt compelled to comfort her after the attack, and as for meI’d touched her last, a touch that had sent a thrill and longing through me I’d barely understood.

Elsa nodded, understanding in her eyes. I need you three to focus on that connection, to feel it deeply. When you do, wash your hands in the bowl, one at a time, and pull on that bond with your mate.

We moved in turn, each of us dipping our hands into the bowl, concentrating on the connection we shared with Scarlett. This time, it took longer, as though

something was resisting or holding us back.

The water seemed thicker, colder, as if the bowl held something more than just water. When we finally finished, Elsa bent over it once more, her face

tightening as she peered into the murky depths. Then, in a voice that seemed to resonate from a place beyond her, she began to speak.

Pain, betrayal, anger, hatredlove, lust, longing, deceptionblood, forbidden, karma, death, darkness.

Each word fell like a blow, and my heart twisted with each one. The only glimmer of light was the mention of love, but I couldn’t even be sure it meant what I wanted it to. All those words, so ominous, so bleak. What did they mean for us, for Scarlett?

Elsa straightened, her face grave. Your future with her is clouded. Bleak, perhaps. There’s too much standing in your way, too much pain and history to resolve, and not nearly enough time to fix it. She will need patience, understandingthings that none of you are wellknown for.

A silence fell, tense and charged with uncertainty. The heaviness of her words settled into my bones. Everything felt precarious, like we were teetering on the edge of a cliff, unsure if we would fall or find solid ground.

Γ

Maxwell was the first to break the silence. What do you think we should do about her?he asked, his voice low, betraying a deep fear none of us wanted to

voice.

Elsa’s eyes softened, but only slightly. Scarlett has no wolf. As things stand, she can’t give you magic, she can’t make you stronger. She is just a mateone you may keep, or one you can choose to reject. But,she paused, as if grappling with something herself, I cannot see her life as clearly as I see yours. She is a mystery, one that may be more dangerous than you realise.

A strange sadness filled Elsa’s gaze as she continued. I can’t tell you what her future holds, or if you should place your trust in her. Her heart, thoughit holds love, a deep well of it. That much, at least, is true. But be cautious, for love, too, can be twisted.

Her words hit me hard. The possibility of Scarlett being both a blessing and a threat unsettled me. I felt a bitter mix of anger, frustration, and confusion, and I looked over at Clay and Maxwell. I could see the same mix of emotions in their facesthe longing, the uncertainty, the fear of what this prophecy

meant for us and for her.

the prophecy doesn’t sound to promising. I hope the mates don’t reject her, because of the fear they have.
