Screw My Childhood Sweetheart His Alpha Brother Marked Me First novel Chapter 151

Chapter 151

Swinging my legs over the side of the cot, I tried to stand. I immediately sat back down. My muscles couldn’t keep me upright, but I didn’t let the panic get hold of me again. I would find a way to fight. Did they leave us any food?

Rezah stood and crossed to the corner of the cell. They left crackers and juice for you since you were throwing up earlier.

I twisted off the cap of the juice and chugged it. The orange flavor was too sweet on my tongue after days of nothing, but I had to hope the sugar in it would help. Rezah tore open the package of crackers and handed it to me. I shoved one after another into my mouth, barely chewing before swallowing.

Careful. You don’t want to get sick.

I forced myself to slow down with the next cracker, to chew more thoroughly. Only after the entire sleeve was gone did I stop.

Rezah surveyed my face. Your color’s better.

The worst of the pain’s gone. I just feel weak.

She worried her bottom lip. I hope they bring plenty of backup. There are at least twenty guards.

You counted?

I’ve tried to memorize the switching of the shifts, who to expect when. I listen when they talk on their earpieces.

I reached out and gripped Rezah’s hand. We’re getting out of here. We’re going home.

Her eyes glistened. I can’t even remember what home looks like. I wonder if I just made things up in my head. Was my porch swing as comfortable as I imagine? Was my house gray or blue?

My heart ached for Rezah, but hearing her fears fueled the anger deep inside me. I gripped it tightly. I needed every last bit of energy it could give me. I stoked it with the memories of every blow, every taunt Garrison had leveled on me. I’d keep the fire fed with the pain etched into my

bones

We’re going to make them pay.

Rezah’s eyes flared. Garrison is mine.

She had lived with the enforcer’s torture for eons longer than I had. I could give her that. Rezah’s gaze traveled over the cell. I wish we could shift.

Me too.My wolf pawed at my chest, longing to get free. I couldn’t imagine how badly Rezah wanted to be one with her other half. I sent a silent promise to my wolf that soon she’d get her wish.

Chapter 151

The telltale sound of the metal door echoed in the quiet space, followed by footsteps. There were too many to belong to only one person. A second later, Kaleb appeared with a group behind him. Garrison, two other guards, and an older man I didn’t recognize.

Kaleb’s steps faltered as he saw me sitting up. Is she better?

The question was directed at Rezah not me. She nodded woodenly. The medication must’ve had a delayed reaction with her. She woke up an hour ago. Her fever has broken and she’s no longer shaking.

He turned to me, gaze assessing. How do you feel?

Weak but better.I needed him to see me as no threat to him.

Kaleb glanced at the man I didn’t recognize. It looks as if your services are no longer needed.

Are you sure that’s such a good idea?Garrison asked. We should break her bond and be done with it. It’s too

much of a risk.

My entire body locked. Break my bond. The words swirled in my mind.

You question me?Kaleb demanded.

Garrison immediately lowered his eyes. Of course not. I just want to make sure her power doesn’t go to waste. You’ve waited so long.”

I’ll expect to be paid either way,the stranger said. The contract has already been signed.

Kaleb’s jaw went hard. I won’t waste a drop of her power.

The man shrugged. Your choice. But she’s already regaining strength. I can feel it from here. If she overtakes you, I won’t be able to help.

Wariness filled Kaleb’s expression as he glanced in my direction. Fine, break it. But save as much of her strength as possible.

Of course, the man said with a dip of his head.

I leapt to my feet. You do this and I’ll kill you.

The words were a vow and Kaleb knew it. But his lips twitched. It’s for your own good. Father knows best and all that garbage.

Panic coursed through me as Garrison punched in the code to the cell door. It swung open and he stepped inside, baton in hand. Don’t fight me.He grinned. I wouldn’t want to have to hurt you.

He’d love nothing more. I took up a fighting stance, but movement out of the corner of my eye pulled my attention. The guards had fingers pressed to their earpieces.

One of them sent a furtive glance in Kaleb’s direction. Alpha. The gates have been breached. I’m getting reports of at least a dozen wolves on the north side. More on the west.

Kaleb’s eyes flared. Send out the alert. All enforcers reporting.

I grabbed Rezah’s hand. They’re here.
