Screw My Childhood Sweetheart His Alpha Brother Marked Me First novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26

No wonder that guy in the woods had warned me about being out there alone. I didn’t think wolves were aggressive unless you came between them and their young or their food though. I’d have to do some research.

I hadn’t seen the tall, dark stranger at school yesterday, but he’d looked a bit older. Maybe he was in college? There were a couple of different colleges and universities within an hour or so of Cloverdale.

Knox pulled into the parking lot at school, and my stomach dropped. It seemed more crowded than yesterday. Lots of students milling around vehicles and chatting with their friends.

Knox swung into a spot at the front of the lot next to the silver Range Rover I’d seen yesterday. His spot read Reserved for Knox Aldridge, Student Council President

Are all the spots reserved?

Knox nodded. Everything’s assigned, and kids who have leadership roles, like student council and team captains, get the spots up front.

That made sense. Perks for those who were highachieving. It only made me more glad that I wasn’t one of them.

I unbuckled my seat belt and put on my backpack. When I looked up, I met angry glares. Sadie and her friends were leaning against the Range Rover, but their gazes were fixed firmly on me.

I swallowed and slipped my blank mask firmly into place. I hopped out of the truck, the guys doing the same.

Senna, right?Sadie asked, her voice dripping with disdain.

I simply ignored her. Whatever she had to say, I had no interest in hearing it.

I asked you a question,she hissed.

Does someone hear something? Like an annoying fly buzzing around?I asked River and Caspian.

Caspian wrapped an arm around my shoulders. Maybe more like a gnat.

What the fuck?Sadie screeched.

Piercing green eyes met mine as we made our way to the front of the vehicles. Anson sent me a grin from where he was talking with two guys and another girl who was pressed up against his side. Like the spine, new girl.

Something about the low rumble of his tone sent a pleasant shiver over my skin.

Caspian pulled me tighter against him as we passed, and Anson’s eyes flashed, making that deep green spark. Stay away from him,Caspian whispered.

Why?I had no plans on becoming friends with Mr. Womanizer, but I was curious.

Chapter 26

Knox fell into step next to us. He’s bad news. Reckless. Always getting into trouble.

Trust me when I say I have no interest in any of that.

But when I glanced over my shoulder, those green eyes were staring back at me, and something about them made me want to

lean closer to the flame.

The sound of a chair scraping against the linoleum filled my ears, but I was too focused on the paper in front of me to look up. I studied the way the creek blended into the mossy bank. It wasn’t exactly right.

I wanted to capture that hit of peace I’d gotten when I’d found that perfect spot. I wanted to hear the roar of the water when I looked at the drawing. It wasn’t there. Not yet. I smudged the waterline with my thumb, melding the moss with the water a little more. That was the thing about oil pastels, you could always change what was on the page.

Someone let out a low whistle. Impressive.

My head jerked up. Yesterday, the seat next to me at the long table had been empty, but today, those mischievous green eyes looked back at me. What are you doing here?

Anson raised a brow. Getting my art credit for the year. That’s not a very warm welcome, Senna.”

You weren’t here yesterday.

A grin spread across his too handsome face. I’m touched that you were looking for me.

I rolled my eyes. I just meant that the chair next to me was empty yesterday.

He leaned back in said chair, twirling a pencil between his fingers. I transferred. His gaze tracked over my face, down my body. Visual art suddenly sounded a lot more appealing than theater.

I turned my focus back to my paper and picked up a deep green pastel. I flicked color throughout the water, deepening the creek, making it richer somehow. Enjoy,I muttered.

You know, I’m not very good at art. I think I might need a tutor. You could come over after school and-

No, thank you.

Seriously?

I glanced in his direction, seeing true shock on Anson’s face. I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing. Has a girl never told you no before?

In the fourth grade, Lily Kilpatrick broke my heart. Dumped me for Chris Abrams.

I shook my head and traded my green pastel for a brown. I began shaping the forest on the opposite side of the creek. Did you ever win her back?

Nope, she moved to Chicago, I think.

I made a humming noise as I filled in the tree trunks.
