Screw My Childhood Sweetheart His Alpha Brother Marked Me First novel Chapter 64

I didn’t want to be alone here. I wanted to be in the only place I felt safe. With my guys.

How? My mom is in the kitchen.

We’re going out the window. Remind me to thank the previous owners for putting in a lattice. Makes for easy climbing.

I let out a shuddering breath. Okay.

Rivertugged me towards the window. I’ll go first and then spot you on your way down.

I watched as he navigated the rungs of the lattice like it was a ladder, but when I climbed out, the distance to the ground looked impossibly higher.

I won’t let you fall,Riverwhispered, his words catching on the breeze.

I swallowed and began to climb down. I focused only on the next step, trying my best to ignore the fortyfoot drop. Before I knew it, warm hands circled my waist, lifting me off the lattice.

Rivertook my hand, pulling me across the lawn and down the street. We jogged to Anson’s SUV. I hurried to climb in, Riverfollowing.

Drive,Riverordered.

He pulled away from the curb. What the hell happened?

Riverpulled me into his lap, and I burrowed into his chest. Ro’s bitch of a mom is trying to send her away.

The low growl that filled the SUV had me jumping, but Riverjust pulled me tighter against him.

It’ll never happen,Anson gritted out.

No, it won’t,Riveragreed.

I was too tired to argue, to point out how little power I had in all of this. I had no proof that my mother had turned into an abusive asshole, and I had no rights as a minor. I slumped against Lucas, soaking up his comfort and that buzz of energy that was only his.

Anson came to a stop in front of his house, not bothering to pull into the garage. I scooted off Lucaslap and climbed out of the SUV. As soon as my feet hit the gravel, a bonedeep weariness swept through me.

Anson appeared in front of me. Ro?

It’s too much.

His expression softened. I know, baby.Without another word, he swept me into his arms and headed inside.

I didn’t protest as he carried me upstairs and deposited me on the counter in his bathroom.

You want sweats or my boxers to sleep in?he asked, as if we’d done this a million times before.

I thought about how hot I’d been when I’d woken up yesterday. Boxers, please.

He disappeared for a moment and then reappeared with a Tshirt and black boxer briefs. I’ll be outside if you need me.

Thanks,I croaked.

He shut the door and I slid off the counter. My movements were robotic as I stripped off my clothes and put on the boxers and tee. The whole time, my mother’s words echoed in my head. They rattled around like a ball made of razor blades, ripping at anything they touched.

Ro, you okay?Lucasvoice came through the bathroom door.

Of course, he could feel that pain too. I’ll be out in a second.

I ran the water as cold as I could and splashed it over my face, trying to banish my mom’s taunting tone. I patted my face dry and stared at my reflection. I couldn’t help but see a stranger staring back. Too much had changed in the past few days. But not all of it for the worse. I had a chance for a beautiful life, with people who truly cared about me. I wouldn’t let my parents

take that from me.

I opened the bathroom door to find Riverand Anson waiting. Lucasmouth curved the barest amount. You found your mad.

A little of it anyway. They don’t get to take this from me. They don’t get to take you from me.

Damn straight,Anson said, as he pulled me into his arms and pressed his lips to my temple.
