Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 111

Chapter 111

“I won’t, I won’t,” Fiona stammered, and she practically

shrank into herself.

Calista tapped the back of Evander’s hand.

“Alright, stop being so harsh,” Calista said. “You’re scaring her.”

The moment Calista spoke, Evander’s cold demeanor melted away, and he smiled at her. “Okay, whatever you

say.”

Calista felt her eye twitch. Could he stop flirting with her right now? All the elders at the table were watching them.

Evander pretended not to notice her discomfort and turned back to Fiona with a warning.

“That guy sitting at table two, I’d stay far away from him if I were you. He’s bad news,” Evander said.

Fiona knew precisely who he meant. Killian.

She had only invited Killian to this party to shut down5:53

any ideas he had about using her to climb the social ladder with the Hayes family, not because she actually wanted anything to do with him.

And now that she knew he was Calista’s ex-husband, that sealed the deal. There was no way she’d go near him.

Killian had more red flags than a parade, and she couldn’t imagine falling for someone like that.

And Austin was just as bad. She’d only kept quiet about him out of respect for Calista, but looking at him now in that ridiculous outfit at a formal event, he was clearly a disaster waiting to happen.

Fiona thought all this but kept her expression neutral and paused thoughtfully.

“Evander, everyone at that table is either my ex or some guy chasing after me. Which one are you talking about?”

she asked.

She swirled her wine glass and looked over at him with a teasing glint in her eye.

Callum remained as calm and collected as ever.

Evander had no interest in getting caught up in their sibling drama and turned to pass dishes to Calista instead.

Calista glanced over at table two and couldn’t help but find Fiona absolutely adorable. Fiona had actually set/ up a separate table for all her exes and suitors. It was

hilarious.

Calista grinned and said, “Fiona, you’re an absolute legend. A true inspiration.”

Fiona beamed and clinked her glass against Calista’s. “Thanks for the compliment,” she said happily.

Evander quickly snatched Calista’s glass away and said urgently, “Calista, you can’t follow her example.”

Calista said in exasperation, “Stop being ridiculous and give me back my glass.”

Evander drained the glass in one gulp.

Calista couldn’t be bothered arguing with his childish behavior and just lowered her head to focus on her meal.

The elders at the table felt their heads throb with

frustration.

Evander had eyes for no one but Calista. After all these years, she was still the only one he cared about.

And Fiona? She dated endlessly but never settled down, with so many exes they couldn’t even fit in one room.

Callum was even stranger. He showed no interest in his own marriage prospects. Still, he somehow knew everything about Fiona’s exes and suitors, and he’d even seated them all together!

Not one of these three was easy to deal with!

Meanwhile, Austin returned to his seat.

Killian let out a snort and said with a snide tone, “What happened? Did they kick you out?”

Austin’s fury flared up, and he shot Killian a resentful look.

Austin glared at Killian darkly and said bitterly, “Dad, this

is all your fault. If it weren’t for you, I’d be sitting at table one right now.”

Killian felt like his own son had just stabbed him in the

heart.

In the Frost family, Killian had never lost the “Mom versus Dad” game.

“Who’s better, Dad or Mom?”

Austin’s answers had always been the same. “Dad!”

“Who’s the smartest person in the house?”

“Dad!”

“If Mom and Dad get divorced, who are you staying

with?”

“Dad!”

He’d already taken enough hits tonight, but now his own son was twisting the knife.

Calista was the one who kicked him out, but somehow5:54

Austin was blaming him for it?

Killian said, “Austin, you need to get one thing straight.”

His face darkened, and he spoke slowly, making sure every word landed. He continued, “Don’t think your mom’s set for life just because she’s cozying up to the Hayes family. She’s just Evander’s friend right now, and she hasn’t actually married into the Hayes family yet.”

Austin pressed his lips together.

Killian went on, “A top-tier family like the Hayes doesn’t accept women like your mother. They’re just being polite because they’re classy people. Just wait and see, she’ll get dumped soon enough.”

Austin stared at him quietly. Irritation bubbled up inside him, and his tone turned sharp.

Austin shot back, “Dad, you sound like a sore loser. You can’t have her, so now you’re trashing her.”

Killian ground his teeth so hard they almost cracked. He said through clenched teeth, “I’m trying to help you see reality.” 6/9

Austin continued, his voice rising with anger. “Mom said my custody is with you and I need your permission to even sit with her. So who else is to blame but you?!”

“You!” Killian snapped back.

If they weren’t in public, Killian would’ve grabbed his belt and taught Austin a lesson right then and there.

“Your mother follows the rules on this, I’ll give her that,” Killian said coldly. “But even with the Hayes family

backing her up, there’s no way I’m giving her your custody.”

Austin’s eyes filled with anger and hurt. “You’re being way too controlling!”

Silence fell between them.

Father and son sat there fuming, and the cold war began. Neither one spoke to the other, so the meal turned

awkward and tense.

Near the end of the banquet, Killian noticed Callum stepping outside alone and followed him.
