Chapter 112
Killian’s jaw tightened. What was Callum trying to say?
That he was too old for Fiona?
He was only forty-five, and in their circles, men in their seventies and eighties still dated young women without anyone batting an eye.
For men with power and money, age didn’t matter, and someone like him who’d built an empire from nothing before he even hit fifty was practically unheard of. He was already at the top of his game.
Frustration simmered beneath his calm exterior.
Still, Killian kept his voice measured as he explained, “Mr. Sullivan, I think you’ve misunderstood my intentions. If Ms. Sullivan isn’t interested, I won’t pursue her. I’m simply pointing out that Frost Group has the resources and experience for this project. We’ve been in real estate development for years, and the South Suburb development is a government priority. Partnering with Frost Group would be mutually beneficial.”

Callum smiled slightly, and his expression suggested he saw right through the carefully worded pitch.
“Mr. Frost certainly knows what he wants,” Callum
observed.
“And you don’t want your own legacy, Mr. Sullivan?” Killian countered.
Callum’s eyes flickered with something that hadn’t been there before.
Killian knew he’d hit his mark.
Callum was adopted, and he’d spent years building the Sullivan empire without ever truly being part of the family.
His relationship with Fiona was strained at best, and that meant his position would only get more precarious over
time.
If he didn’t start planning for his own future now, he’d have nothing when the Sullivans eventually pushed him
out.

Killian pressed his advantage and continued, “If you partner with me on this, I guarantee you’ll be well compensated.”

While Killian and Callum discussed business outside, Austin got bored and wandered out to explore the grounds.
He strolled through the estate until he reached the covered bridge and spotted Olivia standing alone.
He quickened his pace and called out to stop her before she could leave.
“Olivia, what was that all about today?” Austin
demanded.
Olivia turned around, confused. “What do you mean?”
Austin’s voice rose with frustration. “Why are you guilt-tripping me into spending time with Dad? Do you know how that makes me look? Like I’m some ungrateful
son.”

Olivia shook her head. “You’re overthinking this. I didn’t mean it like that. Dad has custody of you, so who else would you go to?”
Olivia couldn’t quite understand him, but at the same time, she knew exactly what he really meant.
She studied his face carefully. “Are you upset with me because you didn’t get to sit at the main table?”
After sixteen years together, she knew exactly what kind of person her brother was.
He was fiercely competitive and always had to come out on top. He needed to have more than her in everything, and if he didn’t, he would find any excuse to throw a
tantrum.
Austin refused to admit it and shot back defensively. “Yeah right, like I even care. So what if you stayed? You think they actually care about you? They’re just being polite because they’re well-mannered and don’t want to look bad. Don’t let a little attention go to your head.”
Olivia wasn’t having it and started counting on her angers. “Mr. Hayes has been really good to me, and I’m

not talking about the fake kind of nice like Nicole. He set up a meeting with Mr. Wiseman for me and gave me a chance to take the exam. He bought me a set of sapphire chess pieces at an auction for ten million dollars!”
The Yale Scholars Program opportunity! A ten-million-dollar chess set! This was way better than anything Nicole had ever given him. Austin’s eyes turned red as he listened, and he was about to lose it.
Olivia continued, her voice gaining momentum. “Oh, and he also gave me a set of Sir Winchester’s manuscripts…”
Manuscripts from the chess grandmaster, Wesley?
She kept going. “And Mr. Hayes let me and Mom stay in a villa at the military compound, and it’s really safe there.”
