Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19 What Did He Do Wrong?

Austin looked around and finally spotted them in a crowded

area.

They were all surrounding Olivia and Calista, competing with

each other to interview them and asking them to share more

advice and details about their daily life.

“Ms. Hartwell, you’re just as beautiful and elegant as your daughter. You two look like sisters.”

Olivia said proudly, “Of course! My mom was the campus beauty at Columbia University! And she’s even prettier now!”

“Wow, Ms. Hartwell went to Columbia University? Back in your day, that was like one-in-a-million credentials! No

wonder you’re so elegant and intelligent.”

Olivia added, “And my mom learns stuff super fast. She’s totally my role model!”

Olivia kept praising Calista until Calista got embarrassed.

She quickly changed the subject and started sharing 16:38

“Olivia’s so smart and accomplished! What does she like to do in her free time?”

“Practice tests, play chess, lots of things…”

Over there, the atmosphere was energetic. Austin’s side felt cold.

He stared at Olivia from a distance, stealing all the attention. His face was dark with fury.

His status as top scorer in the city seemed to have an expiration date. Three days ago, everyone was praising him to the skies, and now people were talking about him like he

was trash.

He didn’t understand what he’d done wrong. Was it so bad

that he didn’t like being controlled and restricted?

Was it so bad that he thought Nicole was great?

Calista had just done stuff that any housekeeper could do. What was so special about that?

People kept walking past, and Leon showed up with his

parents right near Austin.

“Fine, I get it. It’s my fault you got a stomachache. My fault you got hit. My fault you were late. My fault you got yelled at. Unlike some people, I’m not gonna blame everyone else.”

She grabbed Austin’s hand with this noble expression on her face. “Come on, go ahead and take it out on me. I can handle

  1. From now on, I’ll keep my distance from you so I don’t-”

“Nicole! That’s not what I meant.” Austin stopped her from

going on and apologized. “I’m the one who dragged you into this. You didn’t even get to do any interviews because of me.”

He felt so bitter about it. He couldn’t understand how things

had gotten to this point.

Nicole let out a heavy sigh and patted his shoulder. “Alright, kid, none of this is your fault. Your mom set us up, you get it?”

She acted like she could see right through everything and

snorted, “If your sister hadn’t gone up on that stage, none of this would’ve happened.”

Austin’s frown deepened. After a moment of silence, he spoke up, “You’re saying… my mom made Olivia go up there on

Aurpose?”

Nicole didn’t confirm or deny it.

Austin paused. “Nicole, actually, it was Mr. Hughes and Ms. Bailey who decided at the last minute to have Olivia give a speech. I was so nervous I forgot to turn off my mic, and that’s how everyone heard what I was saying backstage.”

“Oh really?” Nicole’s eyes darted around. “But they didn’t need to drag you out and grill you over a speech, right?”

That was all it took to snap Austin’s last bit of self-control. He clenched his jaw so hard his stomach started hurting from the anger.

“They did that on purpose? How could Mom do this to me just

for Olivia’s sake!”

Nicole said, pretending to be helpless, “Well, what can you do? Your mom picked your sister over you!”

Austin laughed coldly through gritted teeth, “Hah. Even if she wanted me, I’d never go with her!”

“Good boy, you’re absolutely right!” Stephanie walked over and cupped Austin’s face affectionately. “Don’t worry about how good they look right now. Who knows what’s gonna Rappen to them down the road!”
