Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 30

Chapter 30

A nearby caddy glanced at Calista with a strange look, biting his lip to hide a sneer-too afraid of Evander’s status to laugh

openly.

It had been years since Calista had played golf, and she’d forgotten how to swing.

She stood at the tee, tensing her core as she focused her strength on her waist and legs.

Evander encouraged her patiently.

“Some skills are like riding a bike-once you learn them, you never really forget. Your posture is still perfect.”

Calista stared into the distance, practicing a few swings.

The caddy suddenly spoke up, his tone condescending, “That’s a par-4 hole, with sand traps and a lake along the way. I’d suggest choosing an easier par-3. Swinging that way would be more your speed.”

However, Calista merely glanced at him, ignoring the advice.

club with a sharp whoosh.

The white golf ball soared toward the green, where the flagstick stood tall.

In that single swing, Calista felt the familiar rhythm return.

Evander’s eyes shone with undisguised admiration. “You

were only about nine feet away from a hole-in-one.”

The caddy’s eyes widened in shock.

This bumpkin actually knew how to play?

Evander slowly tore his gaze away from Calista, his eyes

narrowing as he spoke to the caddy in a cold, authoritative voice, “Retrieve the ball, then you can go home.”

“Huh?” The caddy was still dumbfounded when Evander grabbed Calista’s wrist and pulled her away.

His voice, cold and unyielding, cut through the air. “You’re

fired.”

Calista stumbled along behind him, forced to keep up.

After walking several hundred feet, she pulled her hand free.

“Don’t be angry-it’s not worth it. He’s just a caddy.”

Evander stared down at his empty right hand, still able to

feel the lingering warmth of her skin.

Although he said nothing, his resolve was unshakable.

Calista poked him lightly on the shoulder.

Just like that, a faint smile appeared on Evander’s face, his

mood lifting once more.

Calista shook her head, amused.

Even after years in the military, he was so expressive with his

emotions.

“If he’d seen you play with Mr. Hartwell, he’d know just how wrong he was,” Evander said, pausing for a moment.

His eyes softened as he mentioned Calista’s father.

old illness has flared up again.”

Calista had been staring down at the blooming flowers.

At the mention of her father’s health, her heart tightened sharply.

“How is he? Is it serious?” she asked.

“He didn’t look his best,” Evander replied, not wanting to

worry her.

He pulled out his phone and showed her a photo of Hugh, taken the previous day.

The old man was sitting in bed, reviewing documents while receiving an IV.

Calista bit her lip, her eyes instantly turning teary-eyed. “He’s aged so much… His hair is almost completely white now…”

“Old age brings its share of health issues. Don’t worry- there’s no danger to his life. If you’re really concerned, go

visit him.”

Calista turned away, secretly wiping her tears. 4/8

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to go back; it was that the rift between her and her parents had been too deep for the past

ten years.

A human life had come between the Hartwells and the Frosts,

and she had no idea how to bridge that gap.

She nodded, her voice barely a whisper. “I’ll think about it.”

“Good,” Evander replied.

Meanwhile, Olivia had thrown herself into the test the

moment she received it.

What was supposed to be a two-hour exam, she finished in just one hour.

Logan frowned, urging her to double-check. “Olivia, are you sure you want to hand this in now? You can take more time to

review your answers.”

Olivia’s eyes sparkled with confidence. “I’m sure, Professor

Wiseman.”

Very well,” Logan sighed.

He’d done his best to help Evander, but Olivia was too

impulsive.

Finishing in an hour? She’d probably barely understood the questions.

He’d hoped that giving the second-place student a special chance might yield a hidden gem, but it seemed second place was exactly where she belonged.

Logan collected the test paper and glanced at it casually.

Apparently, Olivia had answered every question, though he couldn’t yet judge her accuracy.

He then sat down and began grading.

The exam had been designed collectively by the mathematics professors of the Yale Scholars Program, covering a wide range of topics with extremely great difficulty-some questions even touched on high school-level

material.

For the average student, a score of C would be impressive.
