“That is Mr. Frost’s ex-wife. He must have written it down by mistake,” Edward explained.

The nurse crossed out the original contact. “Does Mr. Frost have any other family members? Hospital policy requires an emergency contact.’

“Use mine.”

A bright female voice sounded behind them.

Nicole arrived in a rush, dressed in vibrant colors. She stopped beside Edward, breathing hard, her forehead damp with sweat.

“Oh, you are Mr. Frost’s daughter?” the nurse said. “Please write down your contact information and keep your phone on. We will contact you if anything changes.”

At the word “daughter”, Edward turned his face away, visibly uncomfortable.

Nicole was too eager to see Killian to notice. She quickly wrote down her number and entered the ward.

Inside the room, Killian was trying to recall when he had added Calista as an emergency contact.

They were already divorced. Why would he still write her name?

He must have been delirious from vomiting. His mind clearly had not been working properly.

After all, twenty years of habit didn’t disappear overnight.

“Mr. Frost, how are you feeling?” Nicole rushed to his side, looking him over anxiously. When she saw his pale face, her eyes reddened instantly.

“It is all my fault. I only wanted to cook for you, and I ended up poisoning you.”

As tears fell from her eyes, she looked  beautiful, pitiful, and impossible to ignore.

Killian looked at her flushed face. She was gasping for air, her hair in disarray. She must have rushed over the moment she got the news.

The concern in her eyes was genuine.

His thoughts felt distant and unfocused. Then, he waved his hand weakly. “I know. It is not your fault.”

“Are you hungry? I can go get you something to eat,” Nicole offered.

“No need.”

Killian was truly afraid now. He didn’t dare let her handle food again.

With the IV drip, he didn’t feel hungry anyway.

“Go to the hospital store and buy some supplies,” he said. “Edward has been busy handling the paperwork.”

Nicole didn’t want to leave. “I can stay here. Let him go.”

“He is not as careful as you,” Killian replied.

Reluctantly, Nicole left the ward.

Killian had deliberately sent her away and called Edward back in.

“Call Calista,” he said.
