Chapter 61
Killian froze where he stood.
His mouth was slightly open, yet not a single word would
come out.
His darkened face seemed even more pallid and drained than before.
What followed was a surge of rage, sharp and uncontrollable.
Killian shouted, “Calista! We just got divorced today!”
But Calista gave him no chance to continue. “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
The next second, the line went dead, leaving behind a suffocating silence.
Killian hurled the phone across the room.
The screen went black instantly, shattered into pieces.

By middle age, he had long mastered the art of emotional restraint. His joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure were usually unreadable to others.
But at this moment, he couldn’t suppress the fury of what felt like betrayal.
“Mr. Frost, what happened?” Edward asked cautiously, wincing at the ruined phone.
Killian forced the words out through clenched teeth.
“There’s a man with Calista.
“He asked her where the dishwasher tablets were. What does that mean? It means he’s in her house.
“And the way he spoke to her-sweet, intimate… We just divorced today, and she’s already eating and doing dishes with another man? She’s really something.”
With every sentence, his anger escalated. It felt like his rage would burst.
“No wonder she was so determined to divorce me. Turns

out she’d already lined someone else up.”
Edward understood immediately and didn’t dare provoke him further.
He hurried to placate him. “Mr. Frost, could this be a misunderstanding? Mrs. Frost always cared deeply about you. She never struck me as that kind of person.”
“A misunderstanding? He’s already in her house. Who else could it be if not her lover?”
Killian was already unwell, and the anger only made it
worse.
Fortunately, the remnants of reason pulled him back from the edge.
He suddenly remembered that Calista had a twin brother.
Could she have reconnected with the Hartwell family?
That explanation seemed more plausible.
After all, as Edward said, Calista had always cared about him. Twenty years of affection couldn’t disappear

overnight.
Besides, Calista was a divorced woman in her forties with a daughter. Who would want to marry her?
Outside the hospital room, Nicole stood frozen. The color drained from her pretty face.
She had returned because she wanted to ask whether she
should buy him new underwear or bring some from the
villa.
Instead, she overheard every word of his furious.
outburst.
Her lips trembled as she bit down hard, her eyes darkening with resolve.
What is so special about Calista that he reacts like this?
This couldn’t continue. She needed to find a way to make Killian accept her completely.
Late at night, Killian stirred awake.
His lips were dry, and instinctively, he called out, “Calista, 478

get me some honey water.”
Nicole, who had been lying beside him, jumped up and switched on the light.
“Mr. Frost, what do you need?”
Her voice was bright and youthful, nothing like Calista’s gentle, composed tone.
Killian woke fully at once.
He turned his head slowly. It wasn’t Calista’s soft, familiar face, but Nicole’s youthful one.
She must have been sleeping face down. Red marks were
still visible on her delicate cheek.
“Why didn’t you sleep on the bed?” he asked.
Nicole lowered her head and spoke in a muffled voice. “I’m clumsy. I was afraid I wouldn’t hear you if I fell asleep, so I stayed by your side. Do you want water?”
She hurried to pour him a glass and even took a sip herself to test it, making sure it was neither too hot nor:37 578

too cold.
She wanted Killian to see that the person who truly cared for him was her, not his heartless ex-wife.
Killian took a small sip, just enough to moisten his throat, then pushed the cup away.
This wasn’t the honey water he was used to. And the cup wasn’t a straw cup for patients. Even the room temperature wasn’t the precise one he preferred.
Calista would never have overlooked these details.
Still, seeing Nicole’s clumsy effort, he felt a fleeting sense of guilt.
She was careless but sincere.
He raised his hand and beckoned her closer.
Nicole leaned in immediately, her eyes soft and expectant, full of unspoken affection.
