< Second Chance, His Unending Lo…
Chapter 66
Somehow, Nicole learned that Killian planned to attend
the auction.
She wanted to go with him and even swore solemnly, promising she wouldn’t cause trouble or act recklessly. But Killian refused.
For the past few days, Nicole had stuck to him closely, clingy and always there. Killian needed space to breathe.
So, he told her the auction was a business event and not appropriate for her.
Nicole could only turn to Edward privately and probe for
information.
“Edward,” she asked sweetly, “what is Mr. Frost going to bid on? Why can’t I even go with him?”
Edward knew her position and also knew how tolerant Killian was with her.
He answered patiently, “I don’t know exactly what Mr. Frost intends to bid on. But I’ve heard it’s meant as a15:38

gift.”
“A gift…” Nicole repeated, her thoughts spinning.
She remembered Killian saying that morning, right before discharge, that he would thank her properly.
If he’s unusually firm about not bringing me tonight, could it be because he wants to surprise me?
With that thought, Nicole stopped insisting. She returned to her desk in high spirits.

At the auction venue, Killian arrived to find the room full.
There were self-made entrepreneurs, old money families, and young heirs. Conversations paused as they greeted him.
“Mr. Frost, you’re here. Tonight’s auction will be intense.”
“Mr. Frost, please go easy on us.”
His status ensured attention and respect whereɣer he

went.
Killian smiled, smooth and unhurried, “Please, enjoy yourselves. I’m only here for something small.”
At that moment, Bradley approached in a white suit, calm and unhurried.
“Mr. Frost, what are you bidding on?”
He casually handed Killian a glass of juice. “I know you’re still recovering, so I didn’t bring you wine.”
Killian accepted the gesture. They lightly clinked glasses.
“You’re here too,” Killian said.
“I reviewed the list. The lots are decent,” Bradley replied. “If you’re only here for something small, what would that be?”
Given Bradley’s goodwill, Killian didn’t hide it. “A vase by
Master Plumon.”
Bradley’s eyes sharpened slightly with surprise. “You like Master Plumon’s work? I’ve never heard you mention it 38 377

Is it for the young lady you’ve been keeping close?”
“No,” Killian said, smiling, “It was something my… ex-wife wanted. We’re divorced now, but I still want to see what those flowers would look like when placed in that vase.
Bradley looked mildly surprised.
“Then I wish you success,” he said. “A final piece is rare. I remember an auction where one of Master Plumon’s cups sold for five million dollars.”
Killian’s eyes narrowed slightly. He hadn’t followed Gerald before. He didn’t know the work could be priced that high.
Still, he’d prepared ample funds, and most bidders would hesitate once they knew he was the one who wanted it. The competition shouldn’t be too fierce.
“And you, Mr. Ferrer?” Killian asked. “What are you bidding on tonight?”
“The sapphire chess set,” Bradley said.

Killian thought for a moment. He remembered that set was listed near the end.
Lots that appeared later typically had lower starting prices. It likely wasn’t particularly valuable.
Killian smiled, “My daughter likes chess, too, but I’m not enthusiastic about girls learning it. It makes them sharp. Are you buying it for yourself, or as a gift?”
Bradley took a sip of wine. His gaze lowered, hiding something colder and more intent.
“A gift,” he said calmly.
“For someone you care about?” Killian asked, half joking.
Bradley met Killian’s probing gaze. His expression relaxed, and his voice remained light. “In a sense. Yes.”
He intended to gift it to the daughter of the woman he liked, by way of pleasing her. It was indirect, but it was still a move.
Killian became curious.

He only asked casually. He hadn’t expected Bradley,
one of the city’s most eligible bachelors, to actually have
someone.
Bradley had been alone for so long, never seen with a companion.
Killian couldn’t help but wonder what kind of woman it took to capture a man like him.
He raised his glass of juice and initiated another toast.
