Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

The photos showed off the iridescent chest set from every angle, complete with cute captions in her bubbly handwriting as she playfully showed off her new gift.

Killian zoomed in with his fingers, studying the unique sapphire pieces. His gaze darkened. If he remembered correctly, this set had been at tonight’s auction. The Hayes family had won it, so how the hell did it end up with Olivia?

When he zoomed in on another photo, something cold and sharp flashed in his deep eyes. There was a man’s shadow in the picture.

Even though Olivia had cropped the photo so he couldn’t see the actual person, the shadow on the ground told him everything he needed to know.

A chill seemed to roll off Killian in waves. Even Austin

shivered when he walked over and felt it.

“Dad, what’s wrong? You pissed about something?”

Kiljan put away his phone and spoke coldly, “Have you 39

been in touch with your sister lately?”

“Nope.” Austin ran a hand through his brightly colored hair. Dark circles shadowed his sharp eyes. “Why? What’d she do now?”

They hadn’t spoken since she’d beaten him out for that spot in the accelerated program. Whatever new opportunity she’d stumbled into now, he had no clue.

Killian pressed his lips together and tapped on Olivia’s location tag, his eyes narrowing.

Olivia and Calista are living at Golden Crest Court?

From what he knew, a small place would cost upward of 15 million dollars.

He stared hard at the location pin, his expression

unreadable.

Austin frowned and leaned closer. “You’re not, like, missing Mom or something, are you?”

“No.” Killian shot that down fast, then his tone turned serious. “Your mother is stubborn and difficult. She was,9 2/6

never fit to be the lady of the Frost family. The moment I divorced her, I never looked back.” His words were final.

Austin gave a flat “Oh” and didn’t say anything else.

“I’m heading out. Get some rest.” With that, Killian left/ and drove away from the Frost Manor.

Following his GPS, he arrived at Golden Crest Court pretty quickly, but the complex had tight security and he couldn’t get in. He parked outside, fished a pack of cigarettes from his car, and lit one up. It was a rare thing

for him.

Smoke drifted through the air.

Killian rolled down his window and exhaled a cloud of smoke. When the haze cleared, two figures appeared at the entrance to the apartment complex.

Killian’s eye narrowed sharply. That woman was Calista, and with her was a strange man he’d never seen before.

The guy looked to be in his early forties and stood about six foot three.

Killian searched his memory but came up blank. He had no idea who this man was.

The two walked side by side, the man tall and

straight-backed, the woman graceful and elegant. Seeing them together late at night, laughing and talking, made/ something twist in his gut.

Killian crushed his cigarette into the ashtray and got out

of the car.

Calista was shocked to run into her ex-husband at her own apartment entrance. He looked hostile, frowning as he stared coldly at her and Evander with eyes that seemed

ready to tear someone apart.

She patted Evander’s arm. “You should go.”

Evander wasn’t about to leave. He stopped under the streetlight and slowly slid one hand into his pocket, meeting Killian’s gaze with calm composure.

The August heat suddenly felt cold.

This was their first time meeting face to face.

Killian didn’t know Evander, but Evander had whispered that name countless times during sleepless nights.

He was Calista’s sweetheart, Calista’s husband, the father

of Calista’s child.
