Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 87

Chapter 87

Susan picked up her phone with a gracious smile. She opened her call log and held it out for Killian and Olivia to see. “Besides, I’m the one who invited them out today. They’re my guests. If you have a problem, Mr. Frost, you can take it up with me.”

Killian stared at the phone screen, even more confused now. Susan really had been the one to make the call.

But why?

He realized now that he’d misunderstood Calista, but he had no intention of apologizing. He just looked at Susan with mild bewilderment. “Madam Ferrer, why would you

do that?”

Susan smiled, “Mr. Frost, aren’t you two divorced?”

“We are divorced.”

“Then why are you still minding her business? Where Calista goes and who she meets doesn’t need to be reported to you, does it? We haven’t talked about anyone or anything related to the Frost family, and we haven’t5:44

bothered you at all. We’re just sitting here having a quiet meal. Is that not allowed?”

Susan’s argument was logical and sound. Olivia silently gave her a mental thumbs up.

Susan was incredible. Last time she’d argued circles around Alice, and now she was debating with Killian. Every time, she came out on top and left them speechless.

Killian opened his mouth, his face flushing with

embarrassment. The truth was, he didn’t agree with what

Susan said.

Even just to avoid impropriety, Bradley and the entire Ferrer family shouldn’t have any private dealings with Calista.

And now, seeing all four of them here together gave him the distinct feeling that the whole world was stabbing him

in the back.

Stephanie, as an outsider to all this, seemed to finally understand what was happening.

If they weren’t in such an upscale restaurant with the 2/6

Sullivan family’s daughter arriving soon, she would’ve thrown a tantrum right there and started cursing.

She ground her teeth and leaned closer to Susan, lowering her voice. “Madam Ferrer, you need to remember exactly who Calista is. She’s the woman the Frost family didn’t want.

“Your son has a bright future ahead of him, and he’s a catch. There’s no reason for him to get tangled up with some divorced woman who comes with a kid. If you damage the relationship between our two families, you’re the ones who’ll lose out.”

Calista had been holding back for everyone’s sake, but right now, she wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole somewhere.

She’d only come tonight to repay Susan for helping Olivia. She never expected this mother and son duo to have such twisted minds, not only making nasty assumptions about her but completely tearing her down.

Her fists clenched as she spoke coldly, “Madam Frost, if you want to make a scene, I’m happy to oblige. Let’s give Mr. Frost’s blind date a good look at exactly what kind of 376

family values the Frosts have.”

Stephanie quickly glanced at the time, and that one sentence had hit her where it hurt. Her eyes narrowed

into slits filled with malice.

“Calista, I’m warning you not to try anything! Killian’s blind date tonight is the Sullivan family’s daughter, and she’s not someone you can afford to offend. Ms. Sullivan. comes from a prestigious family, she’s gentle and refined, she’s capable and successful, and most importantly, she’s never been married. She’s a thousand times better than

you!”

The shrill voice made Calista’s ears hurt, and she waved her hand dismissively. “If your mouth’s got nothing better to do, go eat shit. Stop yapping.”

“You!” Killian looked hard at Calista and Bradley, then grabbed Stephanie’s arm. “Mom, go back to your seat. I’ll be there in a minute.” He jerked his chin at Bradley, signaling they needed to talk alone.

Bradley didn’t dodge the confrontation and followed Killian to the restroom.

The Skyline Tower restrooms were all done up with luxurious marble countertops, and bright lights from the ceiling cast down, making Killian’s features look even more chiseled and cold.

Killian had always been domineering, and right now he wasn’t going to beat around the bush. He spoke directly with a tone that bordered on commanding. “Bradley, do you understand what boundaries are? You shouldn’t have gone to dinner with my ex-wife, and you definitely shouldn’t be involved with her in any way. From now on, stay away from her completely.”

They were friends, and a friend’s wife was off-limits. By doing this, Bradley was obviously trying to embarrass him. He absolutely wouldn’t allow that.

“Boundaries?” Bradley, usually a man of few words, spoke with rare provocation. “When you were with other women, you didn’t seem to know what boundaries were

either.”

Killian was struck speechless. When he’d been with
