Chapter 88
Killian seemed completely stunned by Bradley’s words. It took him a long moment to react. He stared at his reflection in the mirror, and though his face showed no expression, the muscles in his cheeks trembled.
Bradley straightened up and ground the half-burned cigarette into the sink with force. His tone turned serious. “I’m one of those admirers.”
Images flashed through Killian’s mind.
Bradley visited the Frost family and stayed silent the
whole time, only saying thank you when Calista brought
him coffee…
Bradley deliberately targeted Nicole with all those passive-aggressive remarks…
Someone telling him that Bradley had gone against his wishes and accepted Calista’s resume…
Bradley visiting him at the hospital the day after his
divorce…

Killian finally understood that Bradley hadn’t been worried about his health at all. He’d been trying to find out if Killian and Calista had actually signed the divorce papers. Maybe even this chess tournament had been organized by Bradley for Olivia’s sake.
When Killian connected all those little details, the realization finally hit him. Bradley hadn’t been advising him to divorce from his perspective at all.
“You’ve been after my wife this whole time!” The words came out from between Killian’s clenched teeth.
It wasn’t a question but a statement.
Bradley, who’d been by his business partner and his friend for years, had secretly been thinking about his wife. the entire time.
Bradley and his mother had even worked together to speed up his divorce. He’d been played like a complete fool and hadn’t known a thing.
Bradley very seriously corrected him. “She’s your ex-wife, not your wife anymore.”

The more Bradley emphasized it, the harder it hit Killian. Only in this moment did he truly realize that Calista didn’t belong to him anymore.
That woman now had other men pursuing her. That woman could go out to dinner with other men, go on dates with them, and even…
No. That wasn’t right. It couldn’t be like that.
Killian gripped the sink with both hands, dark clouds gathering around him. He took a deep breath, and after calming himself down, he looked at Bradley with a mocking smile.
“So you have a thing for married women, huh? No wonder you turned down all those women I introduced you to before. The innocent ones, the ones with amazing figures, the elegant and charming ones. Turns out you prefer secondhand goods who’ve already had two kids…”
Bradley lowered his eyes. Then he made a fist with one hand and threw a vicious punch straight at Killian’s face.
The sudden blow sent Killian staggering backward, and the pain in his nose went numb. 376

He wiped the back of his hand across his face and it came away bloody.
Killian quickly tilted his head back to let the blood drain into his nasal cavity, and the metallic taste of iron flooded his mouth. He suddenly went calm and couldn’t stop laughing.
“Why so angry? Mad that I ruined the most beautiful girl in your department? Mad that I destroyed your dream girl? But if you’d seen how pathetic and obedient Calista was when she begged for my love, you’d know just how desperate she was. Too bad you never got her back then, and now… You probably won’t catch her either.”
He straightened up and turned on the faucet, casually washing his fingers and nose.
Through the mirror, he watched Bradley’s cold, silent. expression, and satisfaction surged through him. “Calista loved me for 20 years. We even had two kids together. All I have to do is snap my fingers and she’ll come running back. But you? You can try all you want and still come up empty-handed.”

Bradley looked at this deranged man and shook his head.
He’d known since his freshman year at Columbia University that there was a girl like a rose on campus.
She was elegant and kind, incredibly talented, and every guy’s dream. Her name was Calista, and she was in her senior year back then.
