Daniel hadn't told Winston that Angeline was the founder of Vitality Biotech Group. Seeing Winston's current state, Daniel sighed and said, "Winston, I don't have much expectations for you. Just live well.
"As long as you can hold on to our share of Lawson Global, you won't have to worry about anything in this life—no, in the next life, and the life after that too. Don't stir up trouble. Listen to me, okay? You're my only child. Could I harm you?"
Daniel had a very clear understanding of himself and his son. He knew he wasn't capable, so he had always listened to Robert all these years.
Now, he was old and weak. He suffered from necrospermia, but he finally had Winston in his old age. Though he showered Winston with affection, he knew Winston's capabilities well.
He didn't have high hopes for Winston to achieve greatness, feeling that a simple and ordinary life was also a blessing.
Winston raised the glass in front of him and took a sip, not saying anything. In his mind, he couldn't help but complain about his father's blind loyalty to Robert.
No matter what, both Sean and Angeline weren't Robert's blood relatives. Winston still felt that Helen, who was abroad, had a better chance. Hence, he chose to work with her.
Just then, Winston's phone notification chimed, indicating a WhatsApp message. He lowered his head and opened the app.
"Just landed with my dad." It was a text from Helen.
Seeing Helen's message, Winston smirked. He looked toward Angeline and Sean with a smug expression, as if victory was already assured.
…
Robert was indeed getting old. That night, he exerted himself to introduce Angeline as the granddaughter of the Lawson family to the elite of the Krontos circle. After sending off the few most important people in their network with Angeline, he looked tired.
As Angeline and Sean helped Robert into the car, Robert said to Angeline, "Today counts as your first official day back at Lawson Residence. I have a gift for you. Let Sean take you to see it later."
Meanwhile, Ned was hidden behind a pillar not far from the hotel. He stared at Angeline without blinking, as though she would disappear if he blinked. His eyes were red, and tears were streaming uncontrollably.
It wasn't until the car carrying Angeline disappeared from his blurry sight that he leaned weakly against the pillar. He felt his heart ache.
Zachary, standing beside Ned, looked at him for a while before saying, "Let's go."
"I didn't see Angie with a boyfriend." Ned's throat was choked up as he looked at Zachary with hopeful eyes.
"The person she was having dinner with that day was a bodyguard. Do you think... Angie lied to me? She doesn't have a boyfriend at all, and that children—"
As he recalled the children and Angeline's contemptuous gaze, knowing Angeline as he did, she wouldn't lie to him about the children.
