Rowan took a few more steps away from Sean and complained, "Look at you, bringing your so-called relative into our family and making her Jessica's daughter. What are you trying to achieve? What is it?
"You've set your sights on the Lawson family's fortune, haven't you? Aren't you satisfied that you've already gotten half of it despite being an adopted son? Are you trying to take it all for yourself?"
"You should stop calling this 'your' family, Mr. Rowan. You and Granddad went your separate ways 20 years ago. The Lawson family you're referring to now has nothing to do with you," Angeline said as she put down her cup.
"You have no right to speak here, brat!" Rowan raised his walking cane, wanting to hit her with it. Asher stopped him.
"Even you're on the outsider's side, Mr. Millstone! My brother may have been tricked in his old age, but don't tell me you have, too!" Rowan roared.
Just then, Robert flung a stack of documents at him, his hands trembling.
"Robert?" Rowan was dumbstruck.
Robert got to his feet with the help of his walking cane. His face contorted drastically, and he looked like a monster from the underworld. Even his pupils seemed to be trembling with rage.
Back in the day, when breaking Rowan's leg, Robert had merely sat on the couch calmly while watching his bodyguards do the deed. Rowan had never seen Robert like this before.
"You… You're the one who brought Jessica out and got her lost!" Robert snarled.
Who would've expected Jessica, the only daughter of the Lawson family, to get abducted? After all, she'd had a driver to chauffeur her around, and she'd gone to the best private school in Krontos. The other students were from families that were either wealthy or powerful.
Helen hurriedly crouched down to pick up the documents. When she saw what was stated on them, her eyes widened in disbelief. "This can't be true! Uncle Robert, my dad's Jessica's uncle! We're related by blood—why would he have done something like that to her?"
"It's simple," Sean said leisurely. "Rowan saw how loving Mr. Lawson Senior and his wife, Marie Samson, were, and he knew she couldn't have any more children after Jessica because of her health.
"He figured that if Jessica were to die, the Lawson family would be all yours in the future. Even if you failed to get your hands on the family fortune, you could still 'kindly' offer your child up for Mr. Lawson Senior to adopt. That way, he'd be able to inherit the Lawson family fortune."
Rowan had long since exposed this—when Robert had wanted to adopt Sean, Rowan's intentions had already been clear.
Back then, Robert and Marie had insisted on adopting Sean, so Rowan had no choice but to give up on his plan. He figured that since Sean was just an adopted son, he'd have plenty of opportunities to kick Sean out. After all, Rowan was the one related to the Lawson family by blood.
