At worst, Rowan could keep Jessica around in her crazed state and have her adopt one of his own children. That way, he'd still be able to get half of the Lawson family fortune.

This was also one of the reasons Robert had been in such a hurry to have Sean marry Monica—it was a way to prevent Rowan from pulling any funny tricks. Robert figured that as long as Sean had a wife from a powerful family, he'd be able to help Jessica protect Lawson Global after Robert's death.

"What nonsense! You must've forged all of this!" Helen waved the documents around and looked at Robert. "Uncle Robert, would you rather trust an outsider than your blood relatives?"

Rowan returned to his senses at her words. "Yes, exactly. Robert, you can't trust Sean! He's out to get our family's money!"

"Still being stubborn, are we? That's fine." Sean glanced at his watch. "In another ten minutes, the hitman you hired to murder Jessica will be brought here."

Rowan's eyes widened. He subconsciously glanced at Robert. When he saw the dark look on the latter's face, his legs almost gave out. Feigning bravado, he shouted, "You're just spouting nonsense now!"

Angeline helped Robert to his seat. "Granddad, you have to think about what to do if this matter is proven to be true. The case might be past the statute of limitations, but if the courts determine that it's necessary to pursue the matter, we can still do it after obtaining permission.

"In fact, the statute of limitations doesn't apply to cases where the suspect seems to be avoiding investigation or sentencing."
