However, if people were to find out that Angeline was Jessica's biological daughter, it'd be no different to telling the world Jessica had been nothing but a baby-making machine that the Emmersons had kept locked in the basement. They would also find out about her giving birth to Benjamin.
Robert had kept the Emmersons and everyone in Emmerson Village alive so that he could watch them suffer for the rest of their lives. It wasn't so that Benjamin and his family could continue pestering him and Jessica.
"Wasn't your father the one who wanted to get rid of his family?" Robert barked. "I wouldn't even call you my family, really. As Angie said, we went our separate ways 20 years ago, so the Lawson family has nothing to do with you two anymore.
"No one knows that we're related, and I would never admit that I have a bastard for a brother."
"Robert!" Rowan widened his eyes. "Is this really how you're going to treat your only kin left in this world?"
"Jessica is my only kin! And Sean and Angie!" Robert slammed his walking cane on the floor. "You're nothing but a bastard, and you have no right to call yourself my kin! Even the fact that you share my surname disgusts me!"
Rowan's mother had been a cheap slut, and he was no better in terms of character. Certain things were embedded in one's genes; they couldn't be changed no matter what.
He didn't say these things out loud, though, seeing as Angeline was around. Initially, when Angeline had helped Jessica escape from Emmerson Village, he hadn't wanted to recognize Angeline as his own because of Rowan.
Though he and Rowan shared the same father, Rowan's actions had thoroughly disgusted Robert. It made Robert think that no one could change whatever was written in their genes.
That was why he'd refused to acknowledge Angeline and had left everything—the Lawson family, Lawson Global, and even Jessica—in Sean's hands.
