Helen gnashed her teeth, thinking that Angeline was using her children to suck up to Robert and Jessica.

When she headed back inside the house, she saw Robert had already gotten to his feet with Angeline's help. He was about to head upstairs.

She ran over to him and fell to her knees. "Uncle Robert, I had no idea my father tried to do such harm to Jessica! You may have forgiven him because he's your brother, but my conscience won't allow me to just let this matter slide.

"Please let me remain in the country so I can make it up to you, even if it's nothing much. I'm considered a renowned psychiatrist abroad; I want to stay here so I can help care for Jessica!" Helen's eyes turned red. She sounded as sincere as could be.

Angeline, who stood beside Robert, looked at her coldly. She said, "Mom's life as the only daughter of the Lawson family was perfect before your father did those things to her. She was tormented for years because of your father's greed, and she's not even lucid now.

"How do you think you can make up for that? You're just looking for a reason to remain here."

Jessica had spent years locked up in the Emmerson family's basement; her life had been a living hell for years. The thought of Rowan being the one behind it made Angeline's hatred for him surge.

Even if Robert wanted to let Rowan off the hook, there was no way she would allow it.
