Angeline exited Robert's study and whispered to Asher, "Thank you for taking good care of Granddad."
"Don't worry!" Asher replied before pursing his lips and adding, "I shouldn't be meddling in the affairs of the Lawson family as an outsider, but Ms. Angeline... I still hope that you consider the reputations of Mr. Lawson Senior and the Lawson family."
Understanding his implication, she lowered her head without giving a direct answer and said, "If anything happens, regardless of the time, I'll return immediately."
When Sean, who was still kneeling in the living room, saw Angeline coming downstairs with red eyes, his mind was filled with dozens of imagined outcomes. He even considered the possibility of her abandoning him for the sake of the Lawson family.
He stared straight into her eyes with his hand tightening at his side. His cold and stern features displayed a terrifyingly calm distortion.
She approached him and picked up the glasses from the floor before helping him up.
Taking the glasses from her hand, Sean's tone was cold as he asked, "How was your talk with Mr. Lawson Senior? Are you going to... listen to him and separate from me?"
Sean's trust in Angeline was terrifyingly fragile.
He knew the weight of the Lawsons in her heart, having witnessed her feelings for Ned that led her to sacrifice everything. He had no confidence in her feelings for him because he knew all too well that her love for him was far from as deep as his for her.
Even after she fell into his trap, dominated only by greed and desire stirred up by him, he firmly believed that his position in her heart could never reach the same level of importance as the Lawsons.
Sean, who had always been in control of everything, was surprisingly insecure in this relationship, appearing quite vulnerable.
Watching him extract a tissue from the coffee table to wipe his glasses and put them back on with a dull expression, Angeline felt her heart tightening as if a giant hand was squeezing it hard.
